* I went to bed early. Sleep was not good. I'm sick enough that the virus kept waking me up and between that and Hector, it was not restful. When I finally gave up sleeping, I read with the cats for a while before dragging myself out to do necessary things. I used all the spoons, but I made the long loop and planted the starts before collapsing utterly. The crocuses are coming along nicely and there will be hyacinths soon. I had the foresight to do a cat grass planting inside and the Butt in particular is making good use of it. The black cats are already wanting me too walk them, but it's still too chilly and damp between Mache's arthritis and my AS. There is no sign of life from the fruits and vegetables, but I don't really expect any just yet. I do still need to go through last years tubs to see what's what, but I'm getting a bit of sprouting, so I'm hoping all last years gardening isn't quite a waste. I've broken out the serious meds, because the pain is astonishing. *fingers crossed*
(New readers: I do not let my cats wander about outside interacting with wild life. The black cats are harness trained, though I no longer bother with Mache's as she comes when called and stays in the zone I've taught her is ours. Both were prone to escape. By channeling them towards supervised walks with the Butt tethered securely I have channelled their interest away from escape out the front door towards the back patio. On the rare occasions they escape, they beeline for their turf, making them easy to recapture. They know from experience that supervised walks all happen on warm, pleasant afternoons, but when they escape, it's generally cold, wet, and dark. This also discourages escape. Can you tell I taught middle school? I'm big on gently curbing behaviors towards the ones I want going with the grain of instinct rather than against. Anyway, I do not allow the cats near cars or other animals. Letting cats run loose outside dramatically shortens their lives through accident and disease. It is also terrible for the small birds, mammals, and reptiles in the area. My guys munch a little grass, sniff stuff, and bask in the sun without much risk of damage to them or the local wildlife, so I feel it's justified.)

Yes, I've heard about him being a dick to Quvenzhané Wallis and Mellisa McCarthy. Seriously, how is a grown man mocking a nine year old in a sexual way okay? Similarly, do we really need more fat shaming from smug straight white men? Screw you Seth McFarlane. I plan to continue to avoid you in future.

Date: 2013-03-01 04:02 am (UTC)At the same time, I am wondering what is specifically socialist about mullets for women. I'm not framing this well, but I'm wondering about the symbolism of the hair. Are the cuts picked arbitrarily, or is there a subtext I'm missing not being from that culture.

Date: 2013-03-01 04:58 am (UTC)State sanctioned culture and fashion is stuck in the 1950s for North Korea. It's bizarre. To me it seems like how the Mormons think short men's hair (like Crew cuts) are the only acceptable moral cuts for men even while Jesus is usually depicted with long hair - and pants are the only moral clothes for them to wear, even though the clothes people wore in biblical times was not that.
So this seems to be just another measure to keep North Koreans from straying away from their culture. It's that whole 'decadent west' thing. Also, sometimes 'socialist' is a stand-in for socially acceptable or morally proper. If I remember right, gay behavior is prosecuted under laws against anti-socialism. The laws against women riding bicycles also fit under this.
I'll try and find some articles on it.
