* Empirical data contradicts Republican claims that minimum wage increases hurt business rather than help it. They looked at data from across state borders when one state raises the minimum and it's neighbor doesn't. (State borders are permiable as people living a sort commute from a state line can cross it for jobs, goods, and services). Of course, Republicans believe that all real world evidence should be ignored when it contradicts dogma on the grounds that objective reality has a liberal bias and should therefore be resisted with all the strength they can bring to bare. Sigh.

* Remember how I was saying a few years back how I wonder what the Vorkosigan Saga would be like if told from Ivan's perspective? I didn't quite get that, but Captain Vorpatril's Alliance is mighty close. It's also pretty amusing, at least to the point where I had to put it down today. It's not a masterpiece by any measure, but it tidies up some things that needed tidying and I've laughed out loud once so far, which is a rare thing.
