Jan. 10th, 2013 06:15 am* Dr. Zaidoun Al-Zoabi, the voice of the Syrian resistance, has been freed. He is seriously ill, but amazingly alive. His brother Sohaib is still in the hands of the government.
* The NRA is suing to force the voluntary gun buy back program to sell the guns to the highest bidder instead of destroy them as the gun owners wanted. They did this on the anniversary of the Tuscan massacre.

* Today was meant to be errand day. My body vetoed that. I made one phone call, but not the one I expect to take two to three hours of voicemail mazes and buck passing. Sigh. Between yesterday and today, I did manage to get the tanks caught up. I should theoretically do the ig tank tomorrow, but it's less pressing, having only three fish and being the last I changed before I got too sick to carry buckets.
The HRC called to ask me for money again. I did my usual polite, but firm, "I am not interested in hearing from you until the HRC decides that trans rights are human rights and worth fighting for."
* Adams Family musing: Caveat: I am old enough that my childhood experience was with the original, as I was old enough to see the reboots with lovers.
To me, part of what made the Addams family so attractive and comforting to me as a child was 1. It was a lot like my family. We were all weird and different from each other, but loved and supported each other. 2. The aesthetic really worked for me being from a family that was big into Halloween and that dealt with death honestly. 3. I had a pretty dark childhood as far as the world outside our house borders went. A lot of the plot of the original show was strangers trying to harm them and them scaring them off or otherwise outwitting the attempt to either make them conform and take all their stuff. 4. In a lot of ways it's analogous to chosen family. They don't all look alike or have the same interests, but they clearly are together on purpose. The story of how Gomez and Morticia met and courted and combined their extended families supports this idea.
