Nov. 8th, 2012 10:03 pm* They were not quite done counting my state's election returns, alas, but it's close. It looks like the financial stuff mostly went wrong after all,but the two most important made it, along with the housing levy. It was achingly close on Charter schools, close enough I am going to check final returns tomorrow, but I don't have much hope.
* Why refusing to make rational structural changes in the wake of catastrophes is politicizing it:
* Melissa Harris-Perry Addresses "Heck of a job" Browny's attack on the President for taking hurricane Sandy seriously:
* Voters in MIT sweats turned away at the polls because workers thought they were campaigning for Mitt. *facepalm*
* They tracked those voter suppression billboards intended to scare people of colour into not voting back through the Bradley foundation to Republican leadership including Reince Priebus. I admit, I was expecting the Koch Brothers, but mainstream Republican leadership makes sense. After all, they've been absolutely open about their belief that people of colour should be denied the vote.

* They have discovered that shame is a good way to get out the vote, so there is a thing now where a third party sends you a Voter Report Card before the election showing how often you voted compared to your neighbors. They then send another after the election as a sort of threat. Mine came today. They only track participation in General elections and only the last five. Of course I'm five by five, having missed only one general election and one primary since I turned 18. (Both for moves, the general being the move from Annapolis to Oregon in '90). I grew up in a political household and we played voting on the practice machine when I was a baby. Voting was always serious business to me. Anyway, they thing that impressed me was that the average was three out of five for my neighborhood, which is really high considering how many college students are packed into various apartment complexes on my block, and how many may have only been eligible to vote in 1-4 elections total. Voting three Novembers in a row is impressive for the age group. For sure there are single family houses and some families or older adults in the area, but we are way numbered. Things like this look hopeful to me. You go college students! Rock the damned vote!
