* I know I haven't said much about the ongoing crisis between Japan and China over some uninhabited islands. This is because I have no clear idea of the rights and wrongs of it, and the politics behind it seem rather complicated, and I lost track of details of Japanese politics well over a decade ago. Similarly, there's a whole bunch of stuff going on in Chinese politics I'm not oven close to on top of, having been distracted by stuff happening in the Middle East and North Africa. Anyway, it's looking like China decided to deescalate, at least for now. Fingers crossed for diplomacy sorting things out further.

* Japan has decided to start phasing out nuclear power with them being completely nuclear free by 2040. Too bad we aren't learning from Fukishima. Sigh.

* El Fuego in Guatemala is erupting. The footage is amazing, but it's a serious danger to nearby communities. People are being evacuated. It's the largest eruption in ten years. Fingers crossed that the lava will miss the towns.

* NAACP President Ben Jealous speaking against Pennsylvania 's attempt to suppress the vote.
