* Apparently, a whole bunch of Republicans have arbitrarily decided that women who get pregnant can't have been raped as their are these imaginary secretions they like to fantasize about that magically kill sperm, despite all scientific evidence to the contrary. after all, which is more reliable, fact or stuff Republican politicians made up? clearly the made up stuff the fantacists and it is why he is so strongly in favour of punishing rape and incest survivors by taking their choices from them and making them bare the babies against their will. After all, they must have wanted to be raped. There's a round up of incredibly offensive Republican lawmaker's opinions below the cut:

* RIP Phyllis Diller, in her sleep at the age of 95. She was one of the first women comics. I mostly remember her from Laugh In.

* There was little sleep here at the cattery what with them painting Squirrel side and various idiots yelling outside my window about who was sleeping with whom and how much privacy screen the vegetation affords. Why they needed to have these conversations at the tops of their lungs instead of in a conversational tone, I don't know. As a result, I didn't get it together to do a certain errand, though I did do a library/bank/farmer's market run before turning the car over to Squirrel. The Painters tarped our car for safety as it was closest to the painting, but didn't make us move it, our spot being not that close. We put the remains of the garden outside in the hopes that the summer won't be a total loss. They will come back through eventually to do trim, but they are doing all the buildings in blue first. They used our electricity. Want to bet we don't get reimbursed?

In the dog days of summer, I have been reading about the phase of the Roman empire when the weight of power was moving East. This feels about right. I do this now and then to freshen my memory, and there is a sort of horrible fascination about watching a pluralistic society descend into religious intolerance and persecution, about watching classical art transform into propaganda, about watching the slow death of learning in the West while the Eastern part of the Empire argues on. I think about how weird that must have been for the people living through it.

I've a bunch of things I've been wanting to say about slavery, about religion, about Centralization/Decentralization, about evolving/devolving status of women from Roman to early modern times and how fucked up and flat out incorrect a lot of the things I've been seeing in the media, the archeology/history press, and internet discussions are. Alas, I'm still fighting a pathogen that knocks me out of commission for hours every few days so I'm not up to it just now.

* It was at this point I lost connectivity. I have limited access until tomorrow, most like.
