* Re: Neil Gaiman: I want to apologize for my slowness in reblogging/linking things on this. I only listen to a handful of podcasts and had never heard of tortoise. The news broke in my social media sphere during the Great Millennial move, and I didn't even know it was happening until July was nearly over. I then needed to go actually look at what was going on, which I simply couldn't get to until I'd had a little time to recover from the extreme strain my body was under the last two weeks of July.
I did start reblogging a few things once I'd ascertained what was going on and an article when the third survivor came forward, because by then I was following. I'm not fully up on all the details, since I haven't been up to reading the tortoise transcript, but I have seen enough in trusted sources to be completely convinced.
I want to make absolutely clear I believe the women. I suspect we will hear a lot more survivors speaking up in coming days, as guys with this kind of pattern tend to do a whole lot of damage to a whole lot of people before they get exposed unfortunately. I am angry that he did this to them. I am angry that he tricked so many of us into believing he was something he wasn't and used that to harm people.
The accounts of the women are believable. There is back up evidence. Even if there weren't, Gaiman's public statements in the last month show a lack of understanding of basic decency and consent. I believe the women, and I am so very sorry they experienced these terrible things, done to them on purpose by someone with power over them.
Please do not take my slow response as anything other than it was: a timing issue regarding when the story broke, and my needing time to catch up on what had happened once I was aware.

* Thursday I had an inconveniently timed doctor's appointment. I had six hours scheduled for sleep, but there were six phone calls, so that's functionally 3-4 hours of very low quality interrupted sleep in reality. (Technically there was a 7th phone call after I left for the doctor. One I really needed to be available for. Oops.)
There's been massive turnover at poverty clinic, but the trans sensitivity training is definitely working and the people working their at all levels are a way higher proportion of visibly queer. (Remember the six doctors in one year thing?) I'd never seen either of the receptionists before and the gentleman who did the blood pressure etc. on the way in, I'd seen around there in this calendar year, but I'd never interacted with him. He was so sweet and careful about asking some of the necessary questions. It turned out he could not work out if I were AFAB or ABAB and was worried he'd offend or distress me as a nonbinary trans person by asking about the wrong parts. It was fine. (It was a check up insurance was demanding, plus a vaccination check. He needed to know if I needed either pap or prostate check as part of the wellness check up. I want to make super clear he wasn't asking for no reason and his manners were first rate).
As of this writing I'm up to date on all my elderly/disabled person shots, except flu, which hasn't reached Poverty pharmacy yet. Covid booster isn't due until back half of September.
I want to remind my readers to not only get flu shots and COVID boosters annually, but periodically check in on other periodic Vaccinations. If you had the older shingles vaccine it is no good and you need to get a two part Shingrix. Trust me you do not want shingles. The modern Pneumococcal vaccine is excellent. It also needs a booster every ten years if you are healthy and five if you have things wrong with your lungs or the like. I missed my five year in the COVID gap, so I got mine today. You should also periodically check if you need things like hep vaccinations or tetanus boosters. Adults can fall through the cracks on this stuff, so it's good to check in with a doctor every few years.

* Re: Neil Gaiman: I want to apologize for my slowness in reblogging/linking things on this. I only listen to a handful of podcasts and had never heard of tortoise. The news broke in my social media sphere during the Great Millennial move, and I didn't even know it was happening until July was nearly over. I then needed to go actually look at what was going on, which I simply couldn't get to until I'd had a little time to recover from the extreme strain my body was under the last two weeks of July.
I did start reblogging a few things once I'd ascertained what was going on and an article when the third survivor came forward, because by then I was following. I'm not fully up on all the details, since I haven't been up to reading the tortoise transcript, but I have seen enough in trusted sources to be completely convinced.
I want to make absolutely clear I believe the women. I suspect we will hear a lot more survivors speaking up in coming days, as guys with this kind of pattern tend to do a whole lot of damage to a whole lot of people before they get exposed unfortunately. I am angry that he did this to them. I am angry that he tricked so many of us into believing he was something he wasn't and used that to harm people.
The accounts of the women are believable. There is back up evidence. Even if there weren't, Gaiman's public statements in the last month show a lack of understanding of basic decency and consent. I believe the women, and I am so very sorry they experienced these terrible things, done to them on purpose by someone with power over them.
Please do not take my slow response as anything other than it was: a timing issue regarding when the story broke, and my needing time to catch up on what had happened once I was aware.

* Thursday I had an inconveniently timed doctor's appointment. I had six hours scheduled for sleep, but there were six phone calls, so that's functionally 3-4 hours of very low quality interrupted sleep in reality. (Technically there was a 7th phone call after I left for the doctor. One I really needed to be available for. Oops.)
There's been massive turnover at poverty clinic, but the trans sensitivity training is definitely working and the people working their at all levels are a way higher proportion of visibly queer. (Remember the six doctors in one year thing?) I'd never seen either of the receptionists before and the gentleman who did the blood pressure etc. on the way in, I'd seen around there in this calendar year, but I'd never interacted with him. He was so sweet and careful about asking some of the necessary questions. It turned out he could not work out if I were AFAB or ABAB and was worried he'd offend or distress me as a nonbinary trans person by asking about the wrong parts. It was fine. (It was a check up insurance was demanding, plus a vaccination check. He needed to know if I needed either pap or prostate check as part of the wellness check up. I want to make super clear he wasn't asking for no reason and his manners were first rate).
As of this writing I'm up to date on all my elderly/disabled person shots, except flu, which hasn't reached Poverty pharmacy yet. Covid booster isn't due until back half of September.
I want to remind my readers to not only get flu shots and COVID boosters annually, but periodically check in on other periodic Vaccinations. If you had the older shingles vaccine it is no good and you need to get a two part Shingrix. Trust me you do not want shingles. The modern Pneumococcal vaccine is excellent. It also needs a booster every ten years if you are healthy and five if you have things wrong with your lungs or the like. I missed my five year in the COVID gap, so I got mine today. You should also periodically check if you need things like hep vaccinations or tetanus boosters. Adults can fall through the cracks on this stuff, so it's good to check in with a doctor every few years.
