* 7/31/24 AM We didn't get nearly as much moved Friday-sunday as hoped because of the extreme heat. It finally rained Monday, leading to hot and humid Tuesday. We keep at it. Wednesday is the last day. It's going to be brutal and I've spent hours with the shakes after waking three days in a row, which is one of the things my body does when it's pushed to far.
Still, what must be done must be done.
* 7/31/24 PM Got a call quarter to four that the management company and cursed apartment building would charge a whole extra month rent if the keys weren't in by 4:30, a thing they neglected to tell Goth Millennial. Mobilized troops. Told them move everything into hall, we were coming. Got Squirrel.
They turned in keys; we propped doors. Four of us to get everything out and into new place in extreme heat. My plan was excellent. This was not my first speed move. Nearby Millennial and squirrel took a load in my car. Goth finished removing things from walls and finished packing.
I hobbled everything down the long hall I could. Then lifted everything onto outside landing. Then sat at top of stairs lifting things onto the stairs. Went long way down ramp. Lifted off to lower landing. rinse and repeat until heat exhaustion warning signs while Goth Millennial carried out trash, etc. and moved heavy things.
Car came back. Squirrel bought me juice which I got in their car while they all did second load into my car. Then everything to New place. Then took Millennials to a volunteer commitment. Waited in hot car. Took Millennials home.
2 1/2 hours from call to finish. My arm is DESTROYED. Too tired to cook. I had a peach and a bread thing Nearby Millennial bought. We did it though, in intense heat wave with all disabled movers. Exhausted. hungry. Bath instead.
I'll see if I'm more human after aqua-therapy.
* 8/1/24: Apparently, I took a lot of extra damage yesterday. At this pain level it can be hard to pick out anomalous pain. I not only bruised the shit out of my damaged arm wrist, but sprained the wrist and forearm. i also sprained a foot and ankle, scooting boxes down the long hall with my feet that were too heavy to carry. Not surprisingly My neck and shoulder on the damaged side are screaming. It also feels like I've had a long illness. This is no surprised because I kept having to burn all the spoons. It likely does not help that all the mold in the cursed apartment building got into my lungs during the speed move and completely fucked them up.
If you were wondering why there were only four of us on the speed move, it was because there was a whole second crew getting Newest Millennial moved. they both are safe and sound in the new digs.
* 8/2/24: Goth Millennial wanted to do the errands that we missed because of the Speed Move, so out i to the heat we went, at which point we mostly wilted. We did hit the library and the closer grocery store for essentials, but I took them right back home after. They are feeling better now they aren't living in extreme heat with tons of mold. I told them they should mostly lay up for a week. Putter around putting things away when they feel like, it, but really treat it like convalescence.
I am extremely tired. Not only is there laundry and the things I had to put away, i needed to change the sofa covers, which is exhausting at the best of times and a lot for my arm, but it is done and the garden watered, and i and the beasts have been fed.
* 8/5/24 AM: Saturday we went for groceries, but also to look at halloween things in store.
Sunday, we went to the lake and had a really nice picnic and paddle about. After, Goth and newest millenial, lounged about on my sofa, watching things from (I think) day two of the olympics. (This gives you an idea of how busy and exhausted I've been. I may be watching Olympics into september.) Goth and newest Millenial didn't grow up with Olympics, Wheras my parents used to watch them together all the way back to when they were dating and watching as a family was a whole togetherness thing with us. I introduced goth millenial to Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics last cycle and we enjoyed watching together. Newest Millenial's first encounter with it was Women's Olympic trials, which the three of us watched together.
Today, I showed them the US portion of women's preliminaries, while we explained basics to newest Millenial. Then we watched cross country Equestrian. Goth millenial had seen some jumping at fairs, but this was a whole other thing. Me: It's soothing, like watching a fish tank. Newest millenial: it is! I put on a little of the Women's medal street skaking, which goth millenial had a great time with, because they used to skateboard, so could explain to us.
It was very chill, very found family.
* I really loved the design of the Paris opening ceremony. I liked the way it used the architecture and geography. I liked the way it was all woven together: parade of nations, live performances, clips. It was the most fun I've had watching an opening ceremony in ages. Some of the shots looked like paintings and there were all these beautiful little moments tucked in amoung the usual cheese. The rain did not spoil it as far as I was concerned.
I wish my father were alive to see this. He would have loved it.
I was extra frustrated with the American coverage of it those. They kept dividing the screen on the parade of nations sections for boring boiler plate sports interviews. We have two weeks to watch boring boilerplate sports interviews, which I inevitably fast forward over because they are generally entirely pro forma. The problem with splitting the screen is they stop announcing the countries and the country name tags are too small to read often and I don't get to see their little outfits.
My Mother and I used to love watching parade of nations together. I like the little country facts and Olympic history stuff. I like knowing that this is the first time a particular country is competing in a sport. I like seeing all the different countries competing. I like seeing the cute little outfits, which are all the things getting shunted aside for mostly athletes I never heard of in mostly sports i don't watch saying platitudes.
Worse: they started cutting away missing all or most of boats for boring shots of American athletes in rain slickers screaming and waving flags, a thing we are going to see later in the program anyway. Meanwhile, I'm missing bits I actually wanted to see.

Why am I writing about opening ceremonies on Sunday? Because the Great Millennial Move has been eating most of my time and energy and every time I tried to sit down to watch, I got called away for one thing or another. Sunday evening was my first chance to actually sit and watch.

* 7/31/24 AM We didn't get nearly as much moved Friday-sunday as hoped because of the extreme heat. It finally rained Monday, leading to hot and humid Tuesday. We keep at it. Wednesday is the last day. It's going to be brutal and I've spent hours with the shakes after waking three days in a row, which is one of the things my body does when it's pushed to far.
Still, what must be done must be done.
* 7/31/24 PM Got a call quarter to four that the management company and cursed apartment building would charge a whole extra month rent if the keys weren't in by 4:30, a thing they neglected to tell Goth Millennial. Mobilized troops. Told them move everything into hall, we were coming. Got Squirrel.
They turned in keys; we propped doors. Four of us to get everything out and into new place in extreme heat. My plan was excellent. This was not my first speed move. Nearby Millennial and squirrel took a load in my car. Goth finished removing things from walls and finished packing.
I hobbled everything down the long hall I could. Then lifted everything onto outside landing. Then sat at top of stairs lifting things onto the stairs. Went long way down ramp. Lifted off to lower landing. rinse and repeat until heat exhaustion warning signs while Goth Millennial carried out trash, etc. and moved heavy things.
Car came back. Squirrel bought me juice which I got in their car while they all did second load into my car. Then everything to New place. Then took Millennials to a volunteer commitment. Waited in hot car. Took Millennials home.
2 1/2 hours from call to finish. My arm is DESTROYED. Too tired to cook. I had a peach and a bread thing Nearby Millennial bought. We did it though, in intense heat wave with all disabled movers. Exhausted. hungry. Bath instead.
I'll see if I'm more human after aqua-therapy.
* 8/1/24: Apparently, I took a lot of extra damage yesterday. At this pain level it can be hard to pick out anomalous pain. I not only bruised the shit out of my damaged arm wrist, but sprained the wrist and forearm. i also sprained a foot and ankle, scooting boxes down the long hall with my feet that were too heavy to carry. Not surprisingly My neck and shoulder on the damaged side are screaming. It also feels like I've had a long illness. This is no surprised because I kept having to burn all the spoons. It likely does not help that all the mold in the cursed apartment building got into my lungs during the speed move and completely fucked them up.
If you were wondering why there were only four of us on the speed move, it was because there was a whole second crew getting Newest Millennial moved. they both are safe and sound in the new digs.
* 8/2/24: Goth Millennial wanted to do the errands that we missed because of the Speed Move, so out i to the heat we went, at which point we mostly wilted. We did hit the library and the closer grocery store for essentials, but I took them right back home after. They are feeling better now they aren't living in extreme heat with tons of mold. I told them they should mostly lay up for a week. Putter around putting things away when they feel like, it, but really treat it like convalescence.
I am extremely tired. Not only is there laundry and the things I had to put away, i needed to change the sofa covers, which is exhausting at the best of times and a lot for my arm, but it is done and the garden watered, and i and the beasts have been fed.
* 8/5/24 AM: Saturday we went for groceries, but also to look at halloween things in store.
Sunday, we went to the lake and had a really nice picnic and paddle about. After, Goth and newest millenial, lounged about on my sofa, watching things from (I think) day two of the olympics. (This gives you an idea of how busy and exhausted I've been. I may be watching Olympics into september.) Goth and newest Millenial didn't grow up with Olympics, Wheras my parents used to watch them together all the way back to when they were dating and watching as a family was a whole togetherness thing with us. I introduced goth millenial to Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics last cycle and we enjoyed watching together. Newest Millenial's first encounter with it was Women's Olympic trials, which the three of us watched together.
Today, I showed them the US portion of women's preliminaries, while we explained basics to newest Millenial. Then we watched cross country Equestrian. Goth millenial had seen some jumping at fairs, but this was a whole other thing. Me: It's soothing, like watching a fish tank. Newest millenial: it is! I put on a little of the Women's medal street skaking, which goth millenial had a great time with, because they used to skateboard, so could explain to us.
It was very chill, very found family.
* I really loved the design of the Paris opening ceremony. I liked the way it used the architecture and geography. I liked the way it was all woven together: parade of nations, live performances, clips. It was the most fun I've had watching an opening ceremony in ages. Some of the shots looked like paintings and there were all these beautiful little moments tucked in amoung the usual cheese. The rain did not spoil it as far as I was concerned.
I wish my father were alive to see this. He would have loved it.
I was extra frustrated with the American coverage of it those. They kept dividing the screen on the parade of nations sections for boring boiler plate sports interviews. We have two weeks to watch boring boilerplate sports interviews, which I inevitably fast forward over because they are generally entirely pro forma. The problem with splitting the screen is they stop announcing the countries and the country name tags are too small to read often and I don't get to see their little outfits.
My Mother and I used to love watching parade of nations together. I like the little country facts and Olympic history stuff. I like knowing that this is the first time a particular country is competing in a sport. I like seeing all the different countries competing. I like seeing the cute little outfits, which are all the things getting shunted aside for mostly athletes I never heard of in mostly sports i don't watch saying platitudes.
Worse: they started cutting away missing all or most of boats for boring shots of American athletes in rain slickers screaming and waving flags, a thing we are going to see later in the program anyway. Meanwhile, I'm missing bits I actually wanted to see.

Why am I writing about opening ceremonies on Sunday? Because the Great Millennial Move has been eating most of my time and energy and every time I tried to sit down to watch, I got called away for one thing or another. Sunday evening was my first chance to actually sit and watch.
