* Remember the Mexican election that looked fixed? Turns out the PRI is being investigated for buying votes with grocery store gift cards.

* Today was a bad day for sleep, thanks to cats. First there was the vomiting. It was really disorienting because I couldn't pin down the source. This was because the black cats were puking in stereo at the foot of the bed. Mache had jumped off, being well trained and clever. The Butt, of course, did not. I was too late getting him off the bed, so I had to kick Hector off too and strip the bed and change the sheets, as well as medicate the beasties. The phone rang just as I was drifting off. Of course. It took forever to get back to sleep. Hector decided I needed to get up three hours before I wanted to get up and was an asshole about it. Sigh. So much for resting.

* I wasn't imagining it. The music in the second half of season 1 of Glee is way more to my taste than the the first half was. (I've been checking the CD's out of the library in order). I stand by my original opinion of the first half of Season one just generally. IE: The music and the plot weren't much relevant to my interests. It got better, but I can see why I gave up when I did.

* The Olympics are a multitasking marathon for me. I've got music and books on CDs which I listen to as I fast forward the bits that don't interest me. I've got stuff to do with my hands while I watch the stuff that does. It's a little intense and borderline overloady for me, but being once every two years, I figure it's worth it. Most of the stuff I'm interested in (things like archery, fencing, judo) doesn't get televised, or barely televised, though I do watch all the gymnastics (and figure skating in Winter) I can catch. I generally really watch finals or the tail ends of longer races. Some of you may know I was a runner back in school, but the bits of track and field I'm interested in don't get much TV time either (pole vault, etc.) I don't watch team sports at all. Hell, when they made me play them I didn't much give a fuck either. Similarly, while I root for the Williams sisters just generally, I spent a large part of my childhood hating and dreading being forced to play tennis (or squash depending on season) and wishing it were archery day. (I loved and was good at archery.) It's a weird ass leftover from my prep school education.

* A few Day 1 Olympic thoughts: Needless to say, I'm rooting like whoa for John Orozco, given what he's been through, and he is poetry in motion on the floor excercises. It was beautiful seeing a thirty nine year old Bulgarian gymnast with grey hair make it into the running for individual rings. Just saying. At the same time watching Japan's top gymnast fall over and over was fricking heartbreaking. Even worse was poor Kieran Behan fizzing out in qualifiers after everything he had to go through to get there. For my money, Louis Smith is the sexiest of the male gymnasts that made it into the coverage. (Mowhawk, gymnast's body, and willing to cry in public? Yum.) He's also clearly incredibly talented and he's the first gymnast from Great Britain to make it to finals in 88 years. O.o I have nothing against Michael Phelps, but it seemed a little unfair that the press was pretty much ignoring Ryan Lochte, who clearly worked his ass off the last four years. For sure, I'm glad Mr. Phelps got his shit together and got back into training instead of continuing to drift, but he didn't put as much work in and it showed in the IM. It happened. Yes, I'd have been happy if he made the bronze, but happy for Kosuke Hagino pretty much the same. Now can we give Mr. Lochte a little spot light time too?

* Poor Squirrel and Hector were subjected to my gasps of horror, cheers, etc. all evening. Look, I was a shitty gymnast, and focused on running and dance instead, but I've fallen off enough apparatus to empathize, okay?

* Snoqualamie Ice Cream taste test: The Mukilteo Mud is an excellent simple dark chocolate, good enough to go up against other brands in it's class, though not astonishing the way their lavender and cocoanut flavours are.
