This is the one I’ve written about before that a friend tried to lure us into in the early ‘90′s. We were very poor and without a car, so a free trip to Portland to go to Powell’s looked like a great deal to us.
The pitch was nonsense. Very power of positive thinking and it felt kind of culty and borderline abusive while being at the same time very boring. The cherry Blossom Boy and i kept exchanging Looks.
Eventually, I had to pee, because I pretty much always have to pee, and I had to have a urological procedure less than a year previous for serious issues with my bladder. They pulled their ableist guilt trip bullshit on me and kept threatening me I couldn’t come back if i went, that i had to commit.
No fucking way was I pissing my pants for a bullshit nonsense haranguing that I didn’t want to go to in the first place, so i gathered my shit and left. My guy’s hand shot up. “I have to pee too!” He was after me like a shot.
After using the bathroom, i passed him one of the magazines I’d brought and we read in quiet nonsense free bliss until our ride came to collect us for the book store.
I regret nothing.
