I rather suddenly, rather desperately need a brake job. It's the rainy season here and I'm a disabled person who's been struggling to hobble around the apartment for weeks and who even on a good day needs a car if I want to go anywhere. The grinding gets worse every time I drive it. estimate is just under 500 if I'm lucky. 700ish, if I'm not. so basically if I paid no bills including housing I could just manage it, but that's not remotely feasible. And I'm supposed to start saving for next year's housing tax. Fuck!

* Friday I took a two hour nap and dragged myself out despite a stunning amount of pain for medical stuff. There was a lot of standing and hobbling and sitting about on pavement, but the meds are already improving things, so I've hopes of being more functional in a couple of weeks.
I did eventually get a few more hours of sleep. Head Millennial came by, much to the Emperor's delight, and helped sort out the kitchen, dishes, and the forage delivery. He was like, may I roast these tiny potatoes for you? So showed him where the disposable pans were for that and taught him how to herb them with oil and they were wonderful. Far better than when I make them really as he's so thorough about things and I'm usually making them on days when I'm in rough shape so I cut corners He even cut up a ton of apple slices and did a refrigerator audit. He's such a hard worker an d he worries.

A ship is trying to intercept them. They have encroached on Melkar space apparently. They were ordered to make contact, but the locals empathically don't want any contact. The Feds insist. Aggressively. Seriously, they are entirely in the wrong. Fuck the Federation. If people don't want contact with imperialist powers I don't blame them at all. They transport into mystery fog and communication is cut off.
The locals rightly hold Kirk responsible. Kirk claims to come in peace and threatens them in the same sentence while pretending that somehow the locals are the assholes here and not the invading Feds. The Intelligence labels them a disease. They are sentenced to die at the OK Corral in Tombstone, Arizona for some reason. I mean yes, I get that the Melkotians are psychic, but it's weird since Kirk struggles to work out WTF, and it just feels like a transparent excuse to play cowboys. Also, why is Spock an expert here?
So they all are playing historical Clanton side characters. Checkov makes out with an NPC, none of whom are able to understand or notice anything out of the ordinary. (This same idea will be used in the HBO Westworld Show). Kirk keeps trying to diplomat Wyatt Earp and friends and things keep unspooling towards the inevitable conclusion. Mr. Scott enjoys the local liqueur; Checkov makes time with his character's girlfriend; the others try to work out how to communicate with the ship.
An attempt to leave town fails because there's a force field. They keep looking for ways to use period tech. Bones tries to make a tranquilizer. Spock is trying to make a gas grenade. Bones tries to get supplies from Doc Holiday. Of course. Doc holiday threatens him, but lets him have what he needs. Checkov tries to explain to the woman his character is dating that she can't marry him. Wyatt Earp murders him.
Kirk is suddenly feeling guilty for getting them all in trouble by ignoring the warning. Rightly so. It's clearly his fault. They all bicker because racist abuse aimed at Spock is far more useful than working together, I guess? Anyway, Billy Clayborn (Checkov) survived in real Life so they decide they can change events after all. They need an hourish to make the tranquilizer grenade. Kirk hammers in basic points by repeating things emphatically for the slower audience members.
Kirk tries to talk the sheriff into stopping it. He won't because the Clanton's provoked it. Nice one. He won't and says the towns folk want them to take out the Earps. No joy here. Spock compliments McCoy despite him having just been a racist shit. Kirk wants them to test the tranquilizer gas. Scotty volunteers. It doesn't work. Spock points out that it should work and they must radically reorder their thought patterns.
10 minutes before the shootout they are suddenly at the OK corral because Aliens. An electrical storm traps them. Spock points out physical laws apply everywhere, but don't here. He insists Checkov's belief that he was dead made him dead. It's all psychic projection, basically. They decide to believe the bullets aren't real. Bones yells racist stuff at Spock because Mccoy doesn't have any self discipline. Seriously, fuck, McCoy. Spock mind melds with the humans to make them believe the bullets aren't real.
It works. Despite this, Kirk has a fistfight with Earp for fun, disarming him. They get transported home and Checkov is resurrected because "the only thing real to him was the girl." Even as a child who loved this show, this felt like a cop out. They passed the test, so the Merkotians will allow contact. Kirk lies to Spock that humanity has overcome their instinct for violence. Suuuuuure.

I rather suddenly, rather desperately need a brake job. It's the rainy season here and I'm a disabled person who's been struggling to hobble around the apartment for weeks and who even on a good day needs a car if I want to go anywhere. The grinding gets worse every time I drive it. estimate is just under 500 if I'm lucky. 700ish, if I'm not. so basically if I paid no bills including housing I could just manage it, but that's not remotely feasible. And I'm supposed to start saving for next year's housing tax. Fuck!

* Friday I took a two hour nap and dragged myself out despite a stunning amount of pain for medical stuff. There was a lot of standing and hobbling and sitting about on pavement, but the meds are already improving things, so I've hopes of being more functional in a couple of weeks.
I did eventually get a few more hours of sleep. Head Millennial came by, much to the Emperor's delight, and helped sort out the kitchen, dishes, and the forage delivery. He was like, may I roast these tiny potatoes for you? So showed him where the disposable pans were for that and taught him how to herb them with oil and they were wonderful. Far better than when I make them really as he's so thorough about things and I'm usually making them on days when I'm in rough shape so I cut corners He even cut up a ton of apple slices and did a refrigerator audit. He's such a hard worker an d he worries.

A ship is trying to intercept them. They have encroached on Melkar space apparently. They were ordered to make contact, but the locals empathically don't want any contact. The Feds insist. Aggressively. Seriously, they are entirely in the wrong. Fuck the Federation. If people don't want contact with imperialist powers I don't blame them at all. They transport into mystery fog and communication is cut off.
The locals rightly hold Kirk responsible. Kirk claims to come in peace and threatens them in the same sentence while pretending that somehow the locals are the assholes here and not the invading Feds. The Intelligence labels them a disease. They are sentenced to die at the OK Corral in Tombstone, Arizona for some reason. I mean yes, I get that the Melkotians are psychic, but it's weird since Kirk struggles to work out WTF, and it just feels like a transparent excuse to play cowboys. Also, why is Spock an expert here?
So they all are playing historical Clanton side characters. Checkov makes out with an NPC, none of whom are able to understand or notice anything out of the ordinary. (This same idea will be used in the HBO Westworld Show). Kirk keeps trying to diplomat Wyatt Earp and friends and things keep unspooling towards the inevitable conclusion. Mr. Scott enjoys the local liqueur; Checkov makes time with his character's girlfriend; the others try to work out how to communicate with the ship.
An attempt to leave town fails because there's a force field. They keep looking for ways to use period tech. Bones tries to make a tranquilizer. Spock is trying to make a gas grenade. Bones tries to get supplies from Doc Holiday. Of course. Doc holiday threatens him, but lets him have what he needs. Checkov tries to explain to the woman his character is dating that she can't marry him. Wyatt Earp murders him.
Kirk is suddenly feeling guilty for getting them all in trouble by ignoring the warning. Rightly so. It's clearly his fault. They all bicker because racist abuse aimed at Spock is far more useful than working together, I guess? Anyway, Billy Clayborn (Checkov) survived in real Life so they decide they can change events after all. They need an hourish to make the tranquilizer grenade. Kirk hammers in basic points by repeating things emphatically for the slower audience members.
Kirk tries to talk the sheriff into stopping it. He won't because the Clanton's provoked it. Nice one. He won't and says the towns folk want them to take out the Earps. No joy here. Spock compliments McCoy despite him having just been a racist shit. Kirk wants them to test the tranquilizer gas. Scotty volunteers. It doesn't work. Spock points out that it should work and they must radically reorder their thought patterns.
10 minutes before the shootout they are suddenly at the OK corral because Aliens. An electrical storm traps them. Spock points out physical laws apply everywhere, but don't here. He insists Checkov's belief that he was dead made him dead. It's all psychic projection, basically. They decide to believe the bullets aren't real. Bones yells racist stuff at Spock because Mccoy doesn't have any self discipline. Seriously, fuck, McCoy. Spock mind melds with the humans to make them believe the bullets aren't real.
It works. Despite this, Kirk has a fistfight with Earp for fun, disarming him. They get transported home and Checkov is resurrected because "the only thing real to him was the girl." Even as a child who loved this show, this felt like a cop out. They passed the test, so the Merkotians will allow contact. Kirk lies to Spock that humanity has overcome their instinct for violence. Suuuuuure.
