* Tavy's been having a ton of anxiety around my health because of the Lung Crisis. Over the weekend, it occurred to him that if I never slept, I'd not be able to die in my sleep. His solution was vigorous continuous biscuit making every time I looked like I might sleep. Which escalated. This culminated in four hours of him clawing the shit out of me Tuesday. He is the Energizer Bunny of Cats, but even so, it is very impressive stamina for a Middle Aged Terror. It has also been incredibly exhausting for both of us. He's still rather agitated, but Wednesday he decided it was safe to let me sleep, so that's progress. Poor little button.
Meanwhile, Livia is still fruitlessly hunting for mice most of her waking hours when not cadging pets, eating, etc.. She barely even watches Gazebo Birds or the Patio hummingbird show anymore.
* Forage box came Friday. At some point Livia killed or frightened a mouse to death. We are going to double check under the stove, but the correlation tends to back my deduction that some mice or possibly shrews got into the warehouse. Both mice looked small and young to our untrained eyes, though the first one was the lower end of adult size. The second looked not quite grown. IDK.
In any case, Livia is a very good girl and doing a great job. Constant vigilance has paid off.
In other Livia news, during game today, she came out multiple times to peer at people. We were doing half zoom and half in person. (Both guests masked and full vaxxed. We were lifting briefly to drink and dropping again and had good air flow. These are also people I'm basically bubbled with: Caregiver and nearby Millennial.) Livia is at the point where she tolerates Caregiver Millennial, accepts treats from him, and has allowed brief touching and one proper short pets. Nearby Millennial was a guest before the Plague and has been around fairly often since last... I think May? Anyway: Familiar voice, sits still, and frequently in company of Caregiver Millennial when here. Still, not a Livia Approved Millennial, though completely accepted as Adjunct Chowder by the Emperor.
Over the Summer the Empress has worked out that if the humans are sitting around the table with her personal human on the end, odds are only her personal human will see her if she creeps along the side of the sofa to peer, the arm being high and solid. She can observe and retreat out of reach of visitors in reasonable safety. She made a number of short spying expeditions of this nature during the course of game, and towards the end decided to take her courage in hand and appear on the zoom call.
Get this, she went up on my desk, and stared at the back of the human's heads from Klaus laptop's desk podium, which gave the people watching via a zoom an excellent view of her. The bravery on Livia's part is astounding as she was in batting distance of Nearby Millennial's head. Either Millennial could have touched her. Both had the sense not to, so she got to check the New Person out up close.
I am so proud of Livia. She's a very shy beastie by nature and she's really come out of her shell, I think thanks to caregiver Millennial. This is all really hard for her, especially after thirteen months of no visitors and she is doing so well.

* Tavy's been having a ton of anxiety around my health because of the Lung Crisis. Over the weekend, it occurred to him that if I never slept, I'd not be able to die in my sleep. His solution was vigorous continuous biscuit making every time I looked like I might sleep. Which escalated. This culminated in four hours of him clawing the shit out of me Tuesday. He is the Energizer Bunny of Cats, but even so, it is very impressive stamina for a Middle Aged Terror. It has also been incredibly exhausting for both of us. He's still rather agitated, but Wednesday he decided it was safe to let me sleep, so that's progress. Poor little button.
Meanwhile, Livia is still fruitlessly hunting for mice most of her waking hours when not cadging pets, eating, etc.. She barely even watches Gazebo Birds or the Patio hummingbird show anymore.
* Forage box came Friday. At some point Livia killed or frightened a mouse to death. We are going to double check under the stove, but the correlation tends to back my deduction that some mice or possibly shrews got into the warehouse. Both mice looked small and young to our untrained eyes, though the first one was the lower end of adult size. The second looked not quite grown. IDK.
In any case, Livia is a very good girl and doing a great job. Constant vigilance has paid off.
In other Livia news, during game today, she came out multiple times to peer at people. We were doing half zoom and half in person. (Both guests masked and full vaxxed. We were lifting briefly to drink and dropping again and had good air flow. These are also people I'm basically bubbled with: Caregiver and nearby Millennial.) Livia is at the point where she tolerates Caregiver Millennial, accepts treats from him, and has allowed brief touching and one proper short pets. Nearby Millennial was a guest before the Plague and has been around fairly often since last... I think May? Anyway: Familiar voice, sits still, and frequently in company of Caregiver Millennial when here. Still, not a Livia Approved Millennial, though completely accepted as Adjunct Chowder by the Emperor.
Over the Summer the Empress has worked out that if the humans are sitting around the table with her personal human on the end, odds are only her personal human will see her if she creeps along the side of the sofa to peer, the arm being high and solid. She can observe and retreat out of reach of visitors in reasonable safety. She made a number of short spying expeditions of this nature during the course of game, and towards the end decided to take her courage in hand and appear on the zoom call.
Get this, she went up on my desk, and stared at the back of the human's heads from Klaus laptop's desk podium, which gave the people watching via a zoom an excellent view of her. The bravery on Livia's part is astounding as she was in batting distance of Nearby Millennial's head. Either Millennial could have touched her. Both had the sense not to, so she got to check the New Person out up close.
I am so proud of Livia. She's a very shy beastie by nature and she's really come out of her shell, I think thanks to caregiver Millennial. This is all really hard for her, especially after thirteen months of no visitors and she is doing so well.
