* The Caregiver Millennial assembled the HoA approved air conditioner Sunday. Today I had to go out in melting heat on a medical errand. When I got back I ran a test. It turns out the industrial fans used as force multipliers, plus the weak plastic fan squirrel gave me... last week I think after his industrial fan came is enough to get cool air circulating on a hot day throughout my part of the cat asylum. I had a reasonable temperature in the kitchen while cooking with the bathroom fan and the range hood. By the time I'd eaten and done lungs the common areas of the apartment were pleasantly cool.

It's not full heat wave here yet, but I think the edge made it over the Mountain today and into the weird little micro climate carve out where I live. I've contingencies for if we get a full blown heat wave, things I can move around and adjust in an emergency, but this test gives me real hope the cats and I will be safe when it gets bad again.

I have moved into limited pre-poroceedure diet for now. I checked, and I have all the OTC stuff they required and my fear the EBT won't stretch is unfounded as I do have things like the right kind of bread and good lemonade. I hadn't expected to do this until Autumn, so hadn't budgeted for it and July is Always Expensive. The Millennial is coming in on his day off to take care of me post procedure.

People keep expressing concern, but it's likely going to be fine. The really dangerous surgery I was expecting nowish, we likely aren't doing after all. This is actually the less dangerous Autumn one. It is more dangerous than the July exploratory, but not by that much. It's hard on the body and exhausting, but not particularly dangerous.

I want to thank the people who pitched in for co-pay, industrial fan, and the stupid expensive air conditioning. You are all super stars.

It did get me thinking about why I do this (tumblr, dreamwidth). Oh tumblr amuses me frequently with the things people say and make. I enjoy curating and sharing aesthetic images. The bulk of what I do though is aggregation. It has been since the oughts back on live journal. Bits of commentary, snippets about my life are there too, but really it's been aggregation since back under W when I started transitioning away from talking about teaching and sharing archaeology and history links into political aggregation for obvious fucking reasons. The 2016 election ate so much time and spoons, I had to let most of the archaeology and history go.

The reason the aggregation is so important to me is how many people over the last almost two decades have told me it's important to them. Because my disability forced me to stop teaching and I pretty much have to stop and rest a lot, I happen to have time to read a lot of news. I can do this at home at my own pace. The world doesn't stop if my health stuff messes with the post schedule, but this is something I can contribute. For people with anxiety who find the way I organize the dreamwidth aggregate a less stressful way to keep up with news. For progressive people who have jobs and lives who don't have the kind of time it takes to search out news of progressive interest, who can skim the headlines and then click through to stuff important to them.

I'd be reading the news anyway, but all this here? This obsessive looking aggregation? This is for all of you it helps. It means a lot to me that I still have something to contribute. I can't imagine monetizing it, because the point is fundamentally helping people. Reminding them that they can still resist. Letting them know what needs resisting. Celebrating together the victories when they happen even if we are a world apart.

So no. Fuck Tumblr's monetization. Free is the point here.
