* Wednesday the caregiver Millennial and I went to the first in person forage since the pandemic started. There was plenty of parking and about the same number of foragers as volunteers. I think it was a combination of the word not being out yet and people mostly still preferring the safer and simpler drive thru option instead.

They'd reorganized everything to make it way easier to be in and out in like 15 minutes when there is no line which is a huge help. They had a bunch of things for squirrel and I actually could use. I scored edible for me soups, decent bread, real milk, and tofu.

I'm going to hang on to my delivery slot a little longer, as I don't trust I'll be up to it if McConnellville tries to kill me again or the line gets long, or there's another heat wave. If I relinquish delivery, there is a very long wait list to get it back and this physical respite is so terrible fragile. Any sort of shopping or foraging exhausts me, especially in this heat, even with the Millennial to help put things away.

If it really looks like this is going to work, I will give my delivery slot back. I promise.

I want to thank my readers and benefactors again. We've been terribly lucky that the second heat wave has missed us so far and Tuesday night we got some good air in from Alaska to clear out the gunk, but there are fires on the other side of the mountain, and this too is fragile. The fan and special air conditioner have arrived. I haven't been well enough to do assembly yet, but if I wake up tomorrow in baking hell, I can likely enlist Squirrel to tackle the living room and I have assembled this sort of fan before. It's just I'm not that bendy and my leg is still mending, so I'm putting off sitting on the floor in hopes the Millennial can get to it this weekend.

I wouldn't have this if it weren't for all of you. It is a massive load off my mind that if we have another bad smoke season I'll be able to breath and if the heat hits us again as expected we'll be prepared.

* Thursday was meant to be a rest day. A couple hours in, I heard beeping in the same rhythm as my alarm. The pitch was close, but slightly different and it was slightly muffled. It turned out they had a cherry picker parked in front of my window doing something. It kept on all day. Oh they moved it around the courtyard, but sound carries. There'd be gaps and I'd drift off, then it'd start again.

Bonus? Damned thing made a a louder sound similar to my previous alarm, the one I got in middle school that I used until it stopped carrying accurate time in the oughts, when it backed up.

You can guess what the sleep quality was like. There will be no good sleep Friday either. Fun!

* I underestimated the badness of Friday's sleep. Original plan was to stay up and get the aggregate out since I was going to have pharmacy, forage delivery, and an 11AM lawyer's conference at minimum, but I was exhausted, so I lunged and bathed and when my head hit the pillow I had a two hour potential nap ahead of me.

Ahahaha! No. The phone rang before I could even close my eyes. You know how they said October for the next assault on McConnellville? Yeah, October is actually Monday after next. Not that I object, but it doesn't allow much prep time does it, especially since I need to talk myself into something this unpleasant and hard on my body and start physical prep This Monday. I tried and failed to schedule the required COVID test. That was fifteen minutes, plus another to get myself close to ready to try to sleep. Tick, tick, tick....

The machine was crouched in the courtyard, but I don't think they used it today, though there was other machinery. The Police trying to raise money to prevent accountability woke me up. I had to unblock a number to block them, which means the sham breast cancer charity woke me up.

The alarm went off. I was petting Tavy a couple minutes later when the phone rang with the pharmacy delivery. Clothes on, hobble out and back, discover forage came, without a heads up. Squirrel was kind enough to bring the boxes in and I had just time enough to put it away and schedule the COVID test (successfully) before Lawyer time.

The papers she'd sent to sign did not come until the afternoon post, but I promised when they did came, I'd send them right out, which I did, along with the primary ballot that came in the same post. she's going to try to get them to forgive the debt caused by their error. I haven't much hope, but it would save me time and stress and them time and money.

There was another call about the procedure after I went back to bed. This was also when the machines outside my window kept waking me.

Caregiver Millennial came, and there wasn't a chance of me getting back to sleep at this point, so I did slow physio and watched the Kiki documentary from a few years ago. By the time I was ready to Deal with the World, Millennial was ready to strip and change the bed, do the floor in there, etc., so I went back in and we watched the back three of Loki (rewatched in my case), while we worked on stuff in there. After I took him home I dealt with the paperwork and ballot and sent them off.

* Look, I know primaries on an off year are boring, but county and local elections play a huge roll in quality of life. Please, please, please vote in all primary and general elections even if it's just a few unglamorous races. It cuts down on getting purged and trust me, things like county and local races effect things like... in this case environmental policy and affordable housing.

When I first moved up here the tap water wasn't safe to drink without heavy filtering. now it is, because people voted in local and county officials who made it so. Our cops here are still assholes, but our sheriff and judiciary elections kept moving left which is why we have very robust drug and mental health diversion programs that keep people out of jail and get them into appropriate therapeutic settings.

Please, please vote. Every primary. Every general. Every Race. Every Ballot measure.
