* Thursday I woke up feeling like I've been beaten. Friday, I wrenched my shoulder badly flailing into position for physio, then lay there stunned by the pain. In other news, I think the series of really bad pasta related torso scalding over the past couple of years had to do with the shoulder thing. The first scalding was a month or two before the really bad shoulder pain started. My right is my dominant hand, so I tend to use that hand to carry the hot pasta water and my left to balance the strainer. Each time it happened was with the larger two long handled sauce pans. The extra weight definitely triggers arm failure now. I think the first scalding was a micro failure that was the equivalent of someone jostling my arm. It's so much worse now. I've been rethinking how I manage pasta as a result.

This happened to my Gran (Maternal Great Grandmother) when she was 89; I just turned 51. Same damned arm.

* Since I got the life alert, I have accidentally set it off three times. Twice as I flailed into sleeping position. I didn't know I'd done it either time until the alarm went off in the office. The second time was Saturday morning. A little bit later, I somehow set it off in my sleep. Luckily squirrel heard the alarm and saved me from a surprise paramedic visit. This thing is on a hair trigger.

Update: So it turns out it wasn't me setting off the life alert. It was Tavy. I caught him at it Sunday. I deliberately didn't wear the thing to bed, as the going off in my sleep thing from yesterday could have resulted in surprise paramedics breaking down the door. I hear Thump. Alarm. Louder thump, as if a cat had lept off something. I flailed out of my room and he's running away from the scary sounds. Apparently you can set it off if you bang the box just right.

* Squirrel wanders out of his cave periodically, usually on his way to the kitchen, and will ask me what I'm watching, because my shows are odd, but look interesting. He hardly ever recognizes a show even if it's one he's seen. So I've been doing a DS9 rewatch, and Squirrel wanders out and pauses to see what I'm watching just as Jadzia is helping Worf up and saying something about him reminding her why she loves him.

Me, emphatically: That is the sexiest thing Worf ever did.
Squirrel: Letting General Martock win to help him get his mojo back?
Me, impressed: Yes.
Him: grunts agreement.

* ToS: Season 2 Rewatch:

- 2.22: By Any Other Name. Apparently this is the end of what recorded with the season unfinished. I've no idea when I'll be able to get back to this, since H&I isn't running them any more. Apologies.

They are checking out a distress call, but can't find a ship. They find small metallic readings that could be debris and two supposed humans. They order them to surrender their ship. The humanoids have a belt that freezes Enterprise crew. They will all be leaving the galaxy forever for Andromeda, which is where they are from. There galaxy is going to be destroyed, so they are going to take this one.

A bunch more of them take over the enterprise with the freeze buttons on their belts. They will modify the engines so they can make the journey in 300 years. They use generation ships. Breaking through the barrier at the edge of this galaxy broke the old ship, hence the piracy. (Nice call back to a previous episode.) They can't pone home because of the barrier as well. Kirk offers them empty planets. "We don't colonize; we conquer."

One of the Andromedans is tempted by the pleasures of the flesh shells. Didn't we just do this with the three brains in orbs that got tempted by the pleasures of human bodies they were possessing? head Andromedans says this is too weird and he longs to be inside walls.

Apparently the meat suits are all perfect humans. This is clearly wildly unlikely as parallel evolution. Direct battle won't work because they can paralyze people. The Feds decide they need to take out the central feil projector. They think the belt buttons let them control field effects.

They do a call back to an earlier episode where Spock uses a mind meld. He's going to try it here. Somehow he can just fondle the rock wall to reach the projector on the other side of it. The incredible variable strength Mind meld strikes again. Spock gets zapped and the guard runs in. Kirk beats the guard up before she can touch her button. (Not a euphemism). Kirk steals the magic belt buckle, but they freeze him, take the buckle back and punish him by killing two red shirts, which they turn into polyhedrons. He crushes the woman, but brings back the loose cannon one, uncompressing him.

They repair the ship. Apparently the rock fondling blew Spock's mind. The Andromedans/Kelvans have a hundred limbs. They try to work out how to jam the paralysis projector by jury rigging their medial equipment. Spock agrees to go into a Vulcan rest trace so they can pretend he's sick. The guard falls for and they beam up. The nurse is not bright enough to go along with nonsense treatments, so Bones has to keep shutting her up.

The Kelvan leader can't work out why kirk keeps resisting as it's clearly his duty to submit when conquered. *side eye* A female Kelvan is getting tempted by the loveliness of the flowers. Ah meat suits and their wicked temptations. Kirk quote Shakespeare at her, hence the title. I am honestly surprised he didn't try to kiss her at this point to tmpt her to their side, because that is what Kirk usually does.

They head towards the barrier at Warp Eleve. They have an hour. The projector is installed in Engineering. Their plan won't work because the projector is impenetrable. The Barrier is negative energy, so Scotty can blow up the ship when they hit it by flooding the nacelles with positive energy. Kirk as all, "Are you mad?" Somehow Kirk manages to silently record a log entry without moving his lips while in full view of the Kelvans that helpfully recaps the plot after the commercial break. This is me side eyeing the writers hard. There is yet more suspense build up before Kirk decides not to blow them up.

They go through the barrier without smashing the ship. They take damage, but they're fine. The Kelvan leader orders the non-essential humans to be compressed. Duh. Kirk is somehow shocked. The Kelvans knew bout the plan to rig the ship. Kirk, Spock, Bones, and Scotty are the only ones left. Bones is pissed kirk didn't blow them up because somehow that would be better than turning them into polyhredrons that could be turned back later.

They seduce a Kelvan with food. Scotty wants to try to blow up the projector. Kirk points out they need it to transform the crew into people again. Spock starts to organize the stuff from the mind meld in his head and has worked out they stripped away perceptions and emotions to boost their intellect. Now they are in human form they can feel emotions and enjoy the pleasures of the flesh.

Kirk finally works out that they can get at them through the senses. Scotty gets right up and gets the Kelvan who's eating drunk. Bones tells one of the Kelvans to eat solid food because living on pills is killing him. He needs to come in for injections. Kirk apologises to the woman he beats up and uses it as n opening to seduce her. Because of course he does. She then tries out the kissing on the leader. Spock plays three dimensional chess with the leader. Spock claims he has symptoms of jealousy. The leader protests too much. The leader orders the woman not to fraternise with kirk. They have an arguement about it. Scotty is forced to sacrifice his good Scotch. The shots are not vitamens. The Woman turns up wanting more kissing for "Suplimental research." The one McCoy has been injecting gets confined to quarters for being an asshole as a result of the Scotch. Spock stirs up more jealousy and the leader goes storming off to catch the kissing. The drunk one passes out. Scotty steals his button, but passes out.

Kirk and the Leader fight over the woman. Kirk accuses the leader of acting like a human. He points out how corrupted they already are in a short time and points out that their descendants will only be more so. They will be aliens by the time they get to kelvan. Kirk talks him into dealing with the federation to get their own planets, aka the original deal. Kelvan agrees to settling on that planet where they found them and sending a robot ship to Kelvan with their proposals. The woman goes with the leader.

They really packed a lot into this one. I wonder how that drunk Kelvan dealt with his hangover?

* TNG: Season 7 Rewatch:

- 7.25 All Good Things. Worf fails to recognize a romantic situation in the holodeck and tells Deanna they need to talk to Riker so they don't hurt his feelings. Picard is moving bck and forth through time. He insists it isn't a deam. The segments are before taking command of Enterprise and when he's an old man in the vineyard.

He slips again to the vineyard and Geordi visits him. Geordi is a novelist now. Their conversation is interrupted by angry people yelling. Then he's in the past talking to Tasha Yar about his upcoming service on the enterprise. He sees the enterprise for the first time. And... he's back.

Crusher discovers he has fatal brain abnormality. Security comes up with nothing. Same on weird energy and the gas in his lungs. The Romulans are moving on the Neutral zone. It's something to do with a spacial anomaly. 15 star ships are going to do long range scans and probes, but they're ordered not to cross.

Picard jumps to the future and tries to explain to Geordi. Geordi clearly thinks he's senile; Picard claims it's not the abnormality making him crazy. He wants to go see Data at Cambridge. The angry mob shows up. This looks so much like a modern Parkinson's delusions commercial it is a it unnerving even though I know how it turns out.

Data has fake gray in his hair and a curmudgeon house keeper. data asks him how long it's been since he's seen a Doctor about his brain. He decides to do the scans despite skepticism.

Then he's addressing the crew of the Enterprise for the first time and the angry mob show up to boo. He calls a red alert. Scans turn up nothing. Deanna senses nothing odd. He accidentally orders Worf to maintain a level two alert and Tasha has to remind him she's head of Security. They get the same report about the Romulans. They are ordered not to go to far Point, but he refuses the order and to explain. He tells O'Brian how to fix the engine. He's not chief engineer yet. O'Brian has to explain the idiom "Burn the midnight oil" to Data. He sets data to "ignite the midnight petroleum" to fix the conduits.

He shifts make. His brain had accumulated 2 plus days on memories in two minutes. He runs their memory of events against what happened in the shift to the past. Riker asks Deanna to dinner, she says she and Worf have plans. Picard tells Riker to be ready to take command if he gets disoriented. Riker is distracted. Beverly orders Picard to get some rest. She's distressed by him maybe getting dementia in the future. He says the past isn't written in stone.

He wakes up in the future. he insists they go to the neutral zone instead of getting scans. Geordi points out there is no neutral zone and Picard remembers the Klingons own that part of space. Geordi agrees anyway, but they need a ship. Riker insists nothing is happening, but he'll get the yorktown to do long term scans. You can really see how the Picard series builds on this. Data says they can get across on a medical ship treating plague victims. Picard calls in a favour with Captain Beverly Crusher. They decide to call Worf who's a governor of a Klngon colony. She also thinks dementia, but goes along with it.

PIcard steps into the past. Q isn't there. He steps into the original Q tribunal with the angry mob, only it's now Picard. He asks why he's back here after seven years. Q won't explains but offers to answer ten yes/no questions. Mankind isn't on trial, but there is a vague connection to the previous trial and a strong one to the neutral Zone anomaly. It's not a Romulan plot or attempt to start a war. Q didn't crate an anomaly. Q is shifting Picard through time, but Picard asks a why question, forfeiting the rest. This is still the same trial, not a new one. Mankind is guilty of being inferior. Picard squandered the last seven years instead of "expanding" his mind apparently. Humanity is to be destroyed; Picard is doing it right now. Picard did it before, he'll do it again.

Picard declares red alert. End of Episode.
