* I had to go out to get a key from a friend I'm going to be cat sitting for, so i took the books back to the library even though they were closed. I forgot to take them to last curbside, so it was A Lot. Most of it overdue. Livia must have missed my return, as she came to check for Gazebo birds, it being their bed timish, an she... I know you will grasp her existential horror here, Discovered her Personal Human on The Wrong Side of the GLASS! Gasp! she saw me puttering around with the plants, poor thing. I'm not sure if she thought I'd teleported or if I was some monstrous doppelganger, ut it took her more than half an hour after I came back in for her to decide it was me.

She sees me go out there almost every day, but there is a difference between her knowing I'm going in and out the patio door, and me in mask and shoes suddenly appearing out there on the wrong side of the glass with no transition. she has seen this before, but it's super rare and it mind fucks the poor wee beastie every time.

I'm on day seven of the Quease. COVID test was negative. I have some mild lung an cold symptoms as well. it's likely some low grade virus, but every meal is a struggle. I did manage to strip the bed before I left, but wrestling the wet bedding out of the washer and into the dryer pretty much did me in. I need to do dishes, but the smell of Squirrel's soaking meet plate sets me off if I'm in there more than a minute or so. Ugh.

* A thing I wrote on tumbr: This is why Republicans hate Social studies and Science and endlessly cut money to them in public schools. If you hear “Back to Basics” rhetoric, it’s about firing or not hiring trained social studies and science teachers, and having English and math teachers half ass it with not enough funding. Science and social studies teachers are the ones who teach kids critical thinking, logic, analysis of evidence and sources, etc., all things Republicans and particularly Conservative Christians don’t want public school kids to learn. The last thing the want is ordinary people who know how to spot disinformation, since their power relies on it.

* TNG: Season 7 Rewatch:

- 7.22 Bloodlines. A Ferengi turns up wanting to avenge his son by killing Picard's son. Apparently the existence of his son was a surprise to Picard. They dig up the information. Picard starts to tell Riker about the fling. Me: Well this might as well happen. This is such a tired plot, variations having been a Tos staple. They find Picard's adult son caving while he's between jobs. This Jason didn't know Picard was his dad either. DNA test says Picard is the father. I am so bored with this plot, I keep having to rewatch scenes because I get distracted and tune it out.

Picard shows his shitty son one of his archaeological artifacts. Jason says nothing has value unless you can eat it or sell it. Ugh. Picard keeps trying to bond anyway. Asshole kid wants to go back to the surface, giving no shits about the assassination attempt. Picard asks Beverly Crusher for advice, which is platitudes. Deanna Troi pays asshole son a visit. He hits on her. Ugh.

The Ferengi had been imprisoned, but bought himself out. They track him to a particular system. On the way, Picard wakes up and sees the Ferengi threatening him, but he disappears. They try to work out the how of it. Jason has lots of criminal charges mostly relating to illegal caving. Jason is shaking, which he hides like an idiot, and is obnoxious to the security guards. Another attempt to bond fails.

They find a cloaked probe, which explodes. The message is "My revenge is at hand." The Ferengi turns up in Picards quarters again. Jason has a seizure. He's had symptoms for a few months. He has a neurodegenerative disease. Dr. Crusher suggests patience with Jason to Picard. They find energy traces on the chair where the Ferengi sat. He's using an unstable transporter technology, so they may catch him that way.

Jason is climbing in the holodeck, and Picard goes and asks about Miranda. Jason opens up about his mother.
She went to that planet to run an orphanage after the Cardassian War. She was killed bringing back food, orphaning Jason at 15. Picard talks about his father and explains Jason's criminal record doesn't matter, then makes a bald joke. Pro forma bonding achieved.

They catch the Ferengi beaming Jason out, but they can't prevent it. The Ferengi taunts Picard. They can't get their for 20 minutes, but they can use the same dangerous technology to long distance transport Picard. Jason tries to make a deal. No dice. Picard turns up and announces he knows the Ferengi sequenced asshole kid's DNA and that's how he got sick. Jason is Miranda's son, but not Picard's. There's no ransom; the Ferengi had lied to his crew. They turn on him to turn him over to Ferengi authorities. They have hopes of curing Jason.

I just... Meh. This is their last season. It seems to exist solely to reference Cardassians and Ferengi as a way of promoting DS9 more subtly than the cross over bits they did in Firstborn. The glimpses of ferengi society we see is still the super racist and cardboard version TNG originally introduced instead of the still problematic as fuck, but way more fleshed out DS9 version.
