* Richard Engle, just back from a tour of North Syria, says things in Syria are really different than has been reported. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#48128697
* I keep saying that the 99% are the real job creators because you need demand to spur hiring. Here's a clip explaining why tax cuts for the wealthy don't help: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45755883/vp/48129011#48129011

* When I was a kid watching Soap when it was new, I did bot realize that rape was one of the major themes of Season two. Think about it though. 1. Mary's teacher tries to sexually assault her but she fights him off. 2. Sally tries to sexually assault Burt. 3. Carol rapes Jody. Only the attack on Mary is seen as an assault and it gets brushed aside rather. Sally trying to rape Burt when he is drunk is played for laughs. The very real violation of Jody is never labelled as rape, and it's treated as excess enthusiasm rather than stalking, plying him with drink, then raping him. Him continuing to let her over ride his boundaries makes this stuff really hard to watch as an adult. The other characters treat her as a reasonable romantic partner afterwards... eeew. I have this trouble with a lot of media. I do not understand the True Blood fans who continue to see Sookie's rapist as romantic, or all those creepy people who thought Franklin was sexy when he was raping and physically abusing Tara. I keep poking at Soap, because that weird mix of ground breaking and deeply problematic makes me want to pick at it like a scab. I get that it was the '70's and people didn't think like we do about certain things, but then I look at fan responses to modern properties and wonder if we've evolved as a society at all. For example, Twilight is practically a rewrite of the Valentino film, the Sheik, complete with the racism, the creepy stalking, the sneaking in to watch a woman sleep, the taking away of her choices, etc.. Are we really improving or just pretending to improve? I don't know.
