We had one of these in our department at my second college. He was an emeritus ex-department head and absolutely nothing could be done no matter how horrible he was to women grad students and queer students generally. He taught one class a term. It was a small department and everyone knew each other. The more experienced students would take the new majors aside and warn them.

I simply never signed up for his classes which were luckily not required. I had friends who took their buttons off their gear and went closeted in his room. I knew women who took his class and regretted it.

It is incredibly disheartening that this is where we are still at very nearly the end of the second decade of the 21st century.

* Today, people kept waking me up wanting me to answer questions. Add in how hard it was to get to sleep and the waking up twice coughing. When the forage alarm went off, I decided fuck this and went right back to sleep. It was so bad Tavy migrated to the foot of the bed because being a cat with serious balance issues trying to sleep on someone who is being startled awake over and over is horrible. I am less dizzy today, so that's something.

I checked on the cats after I ate at 3AMish. Three blerps on thedamned bed. I love clean sheets as much as the next person, but I'm pretty sure this is day five of me having to strip my bed and tis time there isn't nearly enough time to wash dry the pad before I sleep. %$*@!

Ways I know that I'm too much of a Classics geek - my response to the Cassandra-Odysseus thing was 'He /did/ meet her. He let Agamemnon take her as spoils of war. Where do you think she was doing her prophesying? She was in Troy. You know, the city that Odysseus looted. She told them all not to bring in the horse. Maybe if he wanted to be saved by prophesies he should have stopped Ajax, huh? Like, on what planet do you think Odysseus has a good track record at listening to the women around him.'
