* Livia Update: Squirrel and I scraped together enough between us for me to take her to the vet, in part because I burned my car insurance auto-withdraw reserve, in part because there is an indigent kitty fund there to cover things like meds, in part because money from a kind benefactor left paypal limbo in time for me to get Livia out of hock by day's end. Other benefactor money is coming in, so the gamble is, will it exit paypal limbo in time to cover auto-withdraw, or will insurance carve great big hole. Catastrophe hasn't hit yet. I'll check again tomorrow.
Poor Livia is traumatized of course. She's in pain and unhappy. One minute she was getting a nice butt pet from her secondary human. Next thing she knows she's being shoved into the crate she came in with her old snuggle blanket and no matter how she tried to escape they kept thrusting her back with those weird tentacle paws humans inexplicably have. Most of her vocalizations are still soft high pitched squeaky meows, but she really put lung into her complaints, right up until I crossed the threshold, at which point she went into hide silently mode, and burrowed under her blanket.
I did warn the vet she was extremely shy. Luckily, despite her size she's extremely non-violent. She was apparently a very good girl for them and even gave them a good sample instead of them having to get it the hard (and more expensive way). She didn't bite or claw anyone. Round about seven she calmed down enough to let me touch her, but she's wary.
It's a good news and bad news situation. The good news is, she's not terminal, and with treatment should live a long healthy life. The bad news is, it's not a UTI, UTIs being very curable. She needs a special diet. It's going to be all the special goosh for a week, and then we can start adding special diet kibble. We are incredibly lucky this wasn't tavy, as the condition is more dangerous in boys and he has a strong preference for kibble over goosh. (He'll graze it, but won't live on it).
Problem One: Livia being on a special diet, means all three need to go on a special diet, because there is no way to stop them grazing someone else's food. That means all three cats need to only eat Livia's special urinary tract friendly goosh. This means the "two week's supply" they set me up with assuredly won't be.
Problem Two: Livia hates new things and it can take her 1-2 weeks to adjust to even small changes. She has to switch today and she ran away in terror from the stranger goosh. She's highly food motivated, so I'm hoping that will help once she gets hungry enough.
Problem Three: Tavy does best free grazing kibbles with an occasional mouthful of goosh and tends to vomit if his proportions are off, so the next week is going to be hard on him and he's apt to take disruption out on the whole household.
(Elder kitty is not picky about goosh, and only eats small amounts of kibble anymore. We'll watch to see if she's eating and for weight loss, but odds are she'll adjust in a day or so).
We for sure are going to need special diet goosh and kibble money for August. What happens after depends on how she's doing by mid-month.
Problem Four: She needs to go back mid-month to see how she's doing. Cost estimate is about $50.00, instead of the $80-110 range, but they won't know for sure until they re actually looking at her. I have no idea what August it going to cost total. The vet will happily sell us the special diet food, but they know we're poor, so they said Chewy.com is likely slightly cheaper. I'm sure we have enough goosh to feed them for a week, but the kibble sample looks like less than a day for the three of them and we will long term need more goosh once we run out the indigent kitty emergency supply.

He tends to act out when he's upset and this is a lot more than I'd expect even from this level of disruption. I'm worried he's worried about her, if that makes sense. Some one or some ones is/are eaing the specil goosh, though I keep failing to actually see them doing it. I have seen all three lurking in the vacinity of the feeding station, but on or more could just be hoping kibbles appear.
* I WAS doing way better on the new antibiotics, but apparently running around all last night trying to deal with pee and vomit and a surprise kitchen mess and having to do two loads of laundry and changing the bed alone (I takes two to properly wrangle the mattress), and freaking out that my kitten might be dying and waiting up for the vet and only getting foutr hours of interrupted sleep and retrieving baby girl and going out into the baking heat to forage was to many things and about half of yesterday's lung progress was undone.
I am physically a mess, and I've barely scratched the surface on this week's news, plus I've got all the debate stuff poring in. I have zero chance of catching up until maybe during the weekend. I am sorry about that.
* I got polled again tonight on a local environmental regulation thing coming up in November. (It's a thing where voters ratify a set of temp regs City Council made). They are going way stricter this year sounds like from the poll. It was another marketing/messaging research one, though I can't tell which side it was so balanced. They did that thing in the end where they ask why I was going to vote for the stricter refinery regulations.
Apparently, "The World is dying," is not a specific enough answer. Poor bastard doing the cold calling got a longer answer with Stats in it. I suspect he wished he'd stuck with my first answer. <.< >.>

Date: 2019-08-01 06:24 pm (UTC)I've found dogs are a measure easier than cats, but it still sucks to have to referee each feeding time regardless. For us, the special-food dog wants the regular chow, the regular chow dogs want the special food, and whoever's watching cannot turn their back for one second. The only easier thing about it, is that we don't let them free-graze all day, else the geese, ducks & chickens will raid their chow.
