* I got up for my thing today, not knowing it was cancelled. It was at this point I discovered the effectiveness of the sofa cover. Washing it then would leave the sofa unguarded, so I left it until I got up. Sleep quality was low today. it took ages to get back to sleep after being up so long, at which point the electricity went out again and I had to get up to ask squirrel to turn it back on. Apparently, he hadn't realized both bedrooms and the living room were one circuit. His bathroom is a different one, so he's running most of his stuff out of there now. I am looking forward to fewer outages. It took me ages to get back to sleep. Again. The next phone call was at what would normally be a reasonable time if I hadn't had dramatically disrupted sleep and was from an out of town friend, so I'm not angry about it. If it had been the scammers again I'd have been furious. It took me a while to get back to sleep.
The last call was around when I wanted to get up and was a fascinating if extensive poll. It was pretty clearly DNC market research for the Presidential Primary in advance of the next debate even though it wasn't identified as such. It was mostly focused on the obvious people (Biden, Warren, Sanders, Harris, Booker, Buttageig, O'Rourke, Castro), but listed everyone in the debate for a couple of the questions. I'm a close observer and I could tell a lot of what they were looking for. There were a bunch of messaging things (I.E: does this message appeal more than this one?) Also a bunch of things intended to determine if we should aim for independents/moderates or base turn out. There was a can so and so win against trump section for the big names, and a bunch of which tone is more appealing questions. They asked several times at various points who I would vote for if the election is tomorrow or are you more or less likely to vote for so and so after hearing the thing we just said questions. The repetition was clearly to get before and after comparisons.
They asked my birth month and used that to determine which big name they were going to get granular on. I got Cory Booker, so there was a very long section where they ask how likely I was to vote for him in the primary, read a statement by him or policy, then ask if I was more or less likely to vote for him based on that and by how much. Then a final how likely to vote for him question and some summary questions. (They did demographics first, suggesting tailoring). I've noticed we've been getting way more political messaging/marketing ones from both sides since '16, which is not coincidentally when Koch Brother's started pouring money into our state and locals, and some out of state left big donors started sending money in to counter them. It certainly makes the polling more interesting, though I have serious concerns about the deleterious effect in Democracy.
I always answer polls, even the push polls, as long as I don't have a guest or the like. People my age and younger tend not to have landlines, which means Boomers get way over represented. I'm one person, but I feel like someone with my views ought to be represented.
Anyway, I couldn't see the tainted spot on the sofa when I got up, but there was a clear difference when I ran my hand over it. I just need to learn to check every time I sit down. I full changed office and bathroom litters, so that's not it. I'm thinking stress, as things have been particularly dramatic feline politics wise the last week or so, which is hard on the girls. The cover's being cleaned/dried while I work, but really what's needed is a second one I can use while the other is being washed if this is going to be a daily thing. They do come in black, it turns out. I need to raise about $40.00 to get a second one. It's about that when you add in shipping costs.
