If they don't start arresting people, then they are complicit with the republican attempt to overthrow Democracy.
Look, I warned y'all back in 2016, if we didn't take the Senate in 2018, we couldn't get an Impeachment conviction. Thing is though? We need Public Hearings. People need to hear people testifying. It's easy to ignore eleven indictable offenses in a 400+ page Mueller Report, especially with FOX "News" and Republicans lying over and over again that they aren't there. If you have hearings five days a week with people telling what actually happened, it's a lot harder to ignore.
Approximately 33% will always back 45 no matter what he does. Public Hearings aren't going to do anything there, but there is the whole rest of the Electorate. They need to hear the testimony. We need a majority of Americans, preferably a large majority of Americans to understand that a criminal is in the White House. Yes, he's committed a ton of Crimes in broad daylight and anyone actually paying attention knows this, but a lot of people aren't paying attention beyond the occasional sound bite. We need to reach them. Public hearing are a big step towards telling the general public what happened.
It's why documents, while necessary, aren't enough. It's why private testimony isn't enough. People need to hear people talking in their own words.
If they can do public hearings properly without labeling them Impeachment Inquiries, that's progress. If they can't and need the extra powers it grants, then they need to do that.
The truth needs to penetrate the bubbles if we want any sore of accountability. That means public protests. That means polling suggesting strong support for Impeachment itself.
Democrats need to shit or get off the pot. Enforce subpoenas, enforce court orders, hold the damned hearings under whatever the fuck name makes sense, but if they sit around being wishy washy and weak then we will continue to bleed momentum and we can not afford that.
If they sit on their hands, they will continue to erode the rule of law, obstruct justice, abuse power, allow hostile foreign powers to have their way with our electoral system, and the blatant bribery and general corruption will continue to worsen and spread.
We are in a fight for our lives against Autocracy and if we give up now, if we stop keeping the pressure on, if we don't organize and protest and keep contacting our Congress Critters to Complain, WE LOSE EVERYTHING.

* I am old enough that some of our neighbors panicked and fled when Three Mile Island happened. My parents studied the news and decided that we were likely okay, and we stayed. As things turned out they were correct that we were far enough away and the weather conditions wrong for us to need to go.
Chernobyl was terrifying, but for those of us living through it in real time, the details were all obscured by the Iron Curtain. The Soviets wanted to hide as much as they could of it. The accident was too fucking big to hide from the world, but they could hide what happened on the ground, the cruely and incompetence and the occasional stunning bravery.
This is why my most lasting impression is from the early 90's. See, when the wall came down, all sorts of documents and information about all sorts of things were suddenly available to historians and film makers in the West. My Lover and I used to like to watch the documentaries and programs made in the chaos of the sudden collapse.
They had a thing on Chernobyl that has haunted me ever since, which I likely watched in '92 or '93. It had never seen before footage, information from suddenly unclassified documents and even interviewees. Most of the interviewees were scientists or historians, but they had this one guy who really stood out. He was a military officer with one of those occasionally stunning faces that the steppes produce. Beautiful dark eyes and cheekbones to die for and his manner was entirely different from everyone elses. he had this charming, darkly humorous give no fucks quality to him. He was obviously intelligent and well educated and he had this strange mix of eyewitness and more detached historical and scientific understanding. he was the heart of the thing, a storyteller, his expert testimony threading through it, describing events once the military was called in to deal with things. He must have studied everything he could get his hands on about it after the event. He talked so engagingly about it all: What the plan was, what he was ordered to do, what his men did, the statistics on how utterly unsurvivable the mission was, interspersed with doomed soldiers jogging in and out with their burdens, truing to cement in the exploded core.
At some point very late in the program he casually mentioned that everyone else is dead. Every single soldier, the other officers who did the on the ground part of the mission at his level and below and that he was going to be dead very soon of incurable cancer.
Oh.
And I think that's the point it really hit us. The scale and horror and inevitability of that kind of death at that level of exposure. You can hear about the doomed first responders buried in their lead lined boxes, and that stats for how many seconds or minutes etc.. of exposure at various degrees of closeness, but it didn't hit like that man talking calmly with now fucks at all to give about what his government did to him and his men because someone, at that point had to do it and they were all considered expendable. He spoke so freely because there wasn't a damned thing his government could do to him that it hadn't already. He was dead even if his body hadn't quite figured it out yet. He was likely completely dead by the time me and my late lover, still in beautiful youth were cuddled up on his Mother's sofa watching the ghost of some handsome soldier from the steps tell us how so many people died.
I've started watching the new mini-series, which fills in some things they hadn't quite fit together back then. It's very good. It's going to take me awhile, because it hurts, because it's real, because that charming dead man still haunts me decades later while I watch this, a stand in for all the others who died fast or slow, but who all died far too soon.
