Jun. 7th, 2012 04:05 am* 71 people died in Syria today as part of the government massacre of Sunnis. As I wrote this, Hillary Clinton was calling for sanctions against Syria and for Assad to step down.
* Remember that new election coming up in Greece? A member of the Golden Dawn (NAZI) Party is expected to be arrested for violently and repeatedly punching a member of a left party during a debate. (Warrant issued, but as I wrote this, not yet actually arrested). Meanwhile, despite this being tourist season and the Country being desperately in need of tourist dollars, there is almost no tourism as people are afraid there will be instability and starvation.
* Ray Bradbury has died. I think it would be impossible to explain to you what Dandelion Wine meant to me as a child. It felt like a life preserver at the time. My Mother thought the section about the new sneakers was practically a prose poem and used it with her students for years. I used Fahrenheit 451 in the essay to get to my first College. Something Wicked this Way Comes spoke to me more as an adult. I can't list here all of his book I read growing up: Images and stories that touched me and stayed with me. I grew out of him, but that doesn't erase all that his words meant to me once.

* Marine Rob phoned as he was lost in the Yukon and he couldn't get enough bars to get directions from his phone. Unfortunately, his end cut out so that I couldn't hear him well enough to figure out what to type to get directions. He was kind enough to call back to say he was okay and and back on the road to White horse. Yes, the one in the song. It sounds like he'll be here next week to visit.
