* So for my Birthday, I was given a massive brick of vegan fudge. I know what you are likely thinking, but trust me when I say this fudge was some of the best I ever had and could for real go head to head with Fudge Kitchen in Ocean city, which is the best fudge I know of. This vegan fudge was soft and rich with embedded pecans. It had the ideal texture and mouth feel for a fudge and for real, I cold not tell the difference. Clearly some sort of kitchen magic was involved. ;)

So as it turned out, the person selling this fudge has recently become disabled and is in real danger of losing their housing. This is a good person, I’ve been friends with online for over a decade. It’s a chance to help out someone and eat something really delicious.

* Friday the forage line was seemingly endless for not much gain. I did got to the pharmacy for the meds that weren't ready Wednesday and hit the library. I also spent a couple of hours alternately reading m/m eldritch horror off and on while doing phone bureaucracy.

Have I mentioned it's health care open enrollment? So the thing is, I'm one of the people left worse off by the ACA. Long time readers will know that while I prefer single payer with Medicare for All second best, I have begged and pleaded with people to turn out and fight for ACA whenever it looks to be repealed. It's a half assed Republican plan designed as much to provide corporate welfare as it is to provide health care for humans, but it's so much better than what came before in this country. I will take people not dying of easily cured conditions over the alternative, even though it costs me personally things like my rheumatologist, lung specialist, and free prescriptions. I am willing to sacrifice for the greater good, and ACA has demanded these sacrifices.

So my personal health care situation is I have Medicare and Medicaid. Medicaid pays for a state sponsored Medicare advantage plan and some of my premiums. None of these words will mean anything to most of you, but don't stress it. What it means is that as an end user, it's like having one insurer, but there's actually weird financial payments going on between three actual providers that I don't have to pay a attention to. Plus I also go to a physician/pharmacist/dentist that works on a sliding scale. I turn in a simple sheet plus proof of income once a year and when I get services they provide them whichever way is cheapest for me. That means sometimes I get things free or super cheap because the sliding scale is better than the health care coverage. Again, this is stuff I don't have to think about unless I get sent to a specialist, in which case I have to quick find $40.00 worth of my personal belongings to sell instead of getting it free from Medicaid the way I did before ACA.

So my state is really good and actually has a robust safety net. Unlike in a lot of states, they want people not to die from stupid treatable illnesses. They have upgraded the the Medicare Advantage options, so today's phone bureaucracy not only looks to be getting me back where I was pre-ACA starting December, plus I'm getting a whole bunch of extra things, like free YMCA membership and limited medical transport and acupuncture starting in January. I'd rather have the municiple pool instead as it's closer with way better parking, but it's not in network apparently.

I know it looks like small stuff, but this could change everything. Pretty much the only safe way for me to exercise is in a pool, which I haven't been able to afford for half a decadish. The best pain management I've ever had for the AS and TMJ is when I was working for that acupuncture clinic doing secretarial type work and got free once a week treatments. The travel service is super limited, but given the expense of gas, my car being on borrowed time, and the impossibility of public transport from a time and requirement to gimp really long distances, this could really be a life savor. I can get my teeth cleaned twice a year instead of once. Te glasses allowance is way better, which is good, because I desperately need bifocals, but have zero chance of paying for them. I'll still need to raise money for them, but it's a more doable amount. There is even a hearing aid allowance, so I need to remember to ask my Doctor for a hearing test. (I pretty clearly have some hearing loss from infections, popped eardrums, and antibiotic damage. The question is, is it enough yet for hearing aids. If not, it's worth monitoring, because eventually it will be, like it was for my Mother).

It really does sound too good to be true, so I don't entirely trust it, being naturally suspicious, but if it is? Wow!

So anyway, check your health plans! You too might have better options than what you currently have and for fuck sake sign up for health care if you don't have it!

* Chargen was cancelled for Saturday, so I designated it a day of rest.

* I have fallen out of love with Midnight Texas. This season is too annoyingly soapy. They keep making Chuy disappear. One of my least favorite tropes is the childfree character being forced to do childcare against her will then changing her mind. The show's always been a bit racist, but this latest one with the Romani supernatural fight ring? So disgustingly racist I'm queasy for having watched it.
