May. 29th, 2012 03:04 am* The government slaughter of civilians continues in Syria. Not content with shelling neighborhoods, government death squads and Assad supporting villagers went house to house killing everyone they found down to toddlers and babies. The Syrian government claims the people doing the murdering are "terrorists and criminals." For sure that is true, it being a government sponsored terrorism against the Sunnis and certainly a War Crime. Still, the Syrians government lies that these things are not done on the regimes orders. Russia continues to block any attempt to help the people of Syria on the grounds that the people being murdered bear equal responsibility for being murdered as the people doing the actual killings. Riiiight. I mean, we all know how politically militant and violent nine month old babies can be compared to adult men with guns. What crimes that nine month old did that meant it deserved to be shot in the head, the Russian Ambassador didn't specify, but we are assured the crimes of these babies completely justify the Russians continuing to fund the genocide. By contrast, Australia has expelled Syrian diplomats in protest of the government murder of civilians 90-100 civilians in Hula. (20 from the shelling, the rest from the door to door death squads).

* Y'all know I love books. I'm always reading three or four at any given time. I'm not anti-book. However, the book is not always better. Usually better, definitely, but not always. I dare you to watch the Close/Malkovich movie, Dangerous Liaisons, then read the book it's based on, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, then honestly tell me you liked the book better. I'm not saying the book is bad; it's readable and interesting enough. It's just that the book is nowhere near as brilliant as the movie, which distills all the best lines and ideas, but has stronger and more interesting characterizations and cuts out the slower, clunkier bits. Absolutes are generally wrong. There are always exceptions.
