* At some point last week, I was awakened by a young man mumbling abaout groceries over a bed phone connection. It took some questioning to find out he was promoting an anti-tax bill I'd never heard of. I brushed him off on the grounds this isn't my first rodeo and I like to read the text of any bill about tax related legislation myself and do research before voting, because things that look sensible and innocuous are often boobie traps designed to trick people into voting against their self interests. Sure, tax levies for schools are generally innocuous, but most other things are complicated and require context and knowledge of who is promoting the particular bill, which means research, not a difficult to parse half mumbled phone pitch. That very evening I saw the first ad for a bill against soda tax. I had questions, but I'm really behind and it's not like there is a rush to research it just yet. The John Oliver mentioned it on his show. O.o
