* This is a thing I teared up writing in a comments section, so I thought I'd share it with you. For the record? The answer is Ze, Zir, Zim, but I accept They, them because I get I'm using a minority pronoun set and standing against the tide.:

One of the things I absolutely love about the way the culture is changing is the way younger people routinely ask pronouns and are so incredibly polite about gender stuff. It really does make one feel safe in a way I don't really think about normally. Even here in this very safe, very left college town, there is a little piece of me that stiffens up in public. This despite my amusement at watching Boomers aggressively push the competing binary pronouns they have assigned me as happens sometimes.

I feel good every time some extremely polite young person asks. It is a small alchemy, but an important one.
