* My Mom broke a rib for the first time when she was pregnant with my little sister. (It was a terrible pregnancy made worse by the same genetic disease that is half the reason I'm officially disabled. I've written about all this a bunch before, but suffice to say this is a thing that happens to people with this disease). All through my childhood, she'd periodically rebreak it coughing. At some point it simply stopped healing. She lived on almost forty years after that first time. It hurt; it slowed her down; it was exhausting. It was a serious issue. She also lived most of a decade with a rib that never healed.

This is to say, I've no idea how frightened to be. I'm terrified really. At the same time I've not despaired as RBG is a tough, determined women who's survived a ton of things and is in amazing health given her age. I don't have anyway to know if the shock and pain and the difficulty of healing such things at her age is out weighed by all those other factors. I'm not a Doctor. I am terrified, but I still have hope. They did send her home after all, so let us all hope and wish her a speedy recovery.
