* Today was forage. It w also far too hot. I miss the old climate. The forage itself was not particularly productive, but I scored three basil plants, two in decent condition. I planted them, changed a tank, cleaned a litter, and did dishes. I was meant to have someone over in the evening, but I think thee was a miscommunication.

* I voted today. Remember folks, always vote in the primaries. It improves chances of a decent candidate come fall, and gives you a heads up in case you've been disenfranchised.

Washington State voters: I know there are an alarming number of candidates for Senate, and if your county is like mine, a lot of candidates for House. Still vote. I mean it! Washington State takes the two candidates with the most votes and they go on to the election. If progressives don't show up, we run the risk of not getting a slot; if we show up in droves, there is always a chance of getting both. Please, please vote!

In my area there are also state rep, judiciary, and city council seats up for grabs. Make sure if you have state and local races where you live you vote too. State government has a huge effect on our quality of life. So does your local government. Do I need to tell you why the Judiciary is a huge fucking deal? Don't be asleep at the wheel.

Remember, if you aren't sure who to vote for, the voter guide and the internet exist. I find a quick skim of the voter's guide can general help narrow things down and then I do an internet search if it's still a toss up. I encourage you to take the extra time to do whatever method works best for you. This time around there are a ton of good candidates and it took me longer than usual, but the extra time was worth it. I feel really good about every mark I put on my ballot.

Please, please vote! Wherever you live, vote. Vote in every race and on every issue. Democracy in this country is at a tipping point, and there is a real chance of us losing what we have left if we don't turn out. Don't let the Boomers decide your future! Millennials and the few of you Gen Z old enough to vote, there are enough of us now to win if you all just show up and vote. Please, please, warm my shriveled and blackened Xer heart by working together with us to win us a future we deserve instead of letting them drag us back to 1850, or ahead to an alarming fascist capitalist dystopia!

I finally watched the first episode of Pose last night, I'd been gearing up for it quite a while and it was a VERY different show than I was expecting. I'd just heard, "Good, POCs, 80s, HIV" and was expecting something I'd have to ENDURE. But I felt GREAT after the first episode, so uplifted and joyful. I hope every character gets everything.

In terms of Judges, local/state bar associations often provide guides for which of the candidates are qualified which are available to the public via the internet. (Do be aware that they tend to be biased towards prosecutors in terms of giving them 'well' or 'exceptionally well' qualified status. I know at least a few lawyers who suggest that all else being equal vote for judges who are defense or corporate lawyers or otherwise practice non-prosecutorial law.)

Sometimes local newspapers will also have guides or at least endorsements which frequently have an explanation of their thinking in their choices.

For the Prosecutor position only prosecutors were running, but both leaned Democrat and had good drug and mental health diversion records and good records on taking violence against women seriously. I took the one with the slightly better set of endorsements, but honestly, it looks win/win to me.

For the other one (Court of Appeals). I voted for the only DA on there on general principals, but honestly, half the other options I could live with as they had strong Legal Aid and other stuff I care about backgrounds. I always vote for a DA when one is offered. :)

My very favorite of Skye's sisters married a second husband we all adored who was a DA in San Franscisco and the sister was herself a working mainstream journalist there. The conversation was fascinating. I miss them. (The first husband was aweful and everyone was betting it would last two years, the length of the pre-nup. she deserved so much better and got it).

Voting is so much better since the Internet. It makes it way easier to pick, say, a treasurer or Comptroller as one had to rely on local newspaper for information. Relying on the local paper was fine with the good Oregon papers, but the local here literally makes up quotes and things and has right wing editorial policies. I'd much rather poke around and see who is backing whom and recommendations from relevant organizations than trust the mess coming out of that particular newsroom.
