* The opposition candidate, Mahammadu Buhari won in Nigeria. Goodluck Johnathan says he will step aside without violence. Mr. Buhari was previously a dictator in the country and was known for violent crack downs and imprisoning large numbers of people. People are hoping it will work out better this time. To be honest, I was not a fan of either candidate, but if they can manage a peaceful exchange of power, that will be a big step forward. *fingers crossed for things turning out well* Nigeria is a major economy and regional power, and the Boko Haram attacks on schools and the mass kidnappings of girls need to be stopped. It's a delicate situation and the lives and safety of so many depend on an effective government. I am not sanguine because of Mr. Buhari's human rights record, but let us hope this time will be better.

* Dear France, fining and imprisoning people for having eating disorders is a terrible idea. Please, please, don't. Fight the disease, as it kills people. Do not fight the people who have the disease.
