* I understand that Europe (Italy in particular) are having a hard time handling the particularly large influx of North African and Middle Eastern refugees just now, but at the same time, I can't help but be glad that boatload of Syrian and Kurdish refugees made it safely to shore in Gallipoli on autopilot, and I can't help but cheer for any civilians who make it out of war zones safe and alive. We all ought to be lifting quotas for refugees from conflict areas and doing all in our power to help them to safety instead of turning them away. When I thing of the South and central American Refugee children turning up in Texas and the folks fleeing from conflict zones in Africa and the middle east to Europe, I always think of that boat load of German Jews fleeing Hitler that was repeatedly turned away by the western powers to our Eternal Shame, and forced back to Germany where they were sent to Concentration camps to die. That should never have happened once. It should not be happening now.

So lets all cheer for each boat making it to safety, for each family crossing a border to somewhere they have a chance at life, and lets do all we can to help them in their new countries.

* 35 people died in a crowd stampede at the Shanghai New year's celebration. Some idiot threw paper money into the crowd and 35 people died. They'd actually cancelled the fireworks due to safety concerns.

* Egypt is going to retry three Al Jazeera reporters convicted a year ago of the crime of accurately reporting the news. They are imprison for the duration including the man in desperate need of medical care. Don't hold your breath for a fairer outcome.

Sick Again

* Another crewless boat carrying 400-450 migrants was discovered floating in rough sea without power off the Coast of italy. An Icelandic ship spotted them, but could not board. They were towing them home last night. As I've been saying there needs to be a Europe wide effort. They need to work together and share both the expense of rescue and medical care and each take a fair share within their borders. Legal migration for refugees from conflict zones needs to be easy and fast. The current system literally kills people.

And yes, we need to take the same sort of responsibility in the US for Central and South American refugees particularly fleeing countries we destabilized. We also ought to be taking in our share from the Middle East and north Africa, particularly Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and any other country we've meddled in since WWII. We shouldn't be forcing desperate mothers to be putting lone children on top of trains to save them. We shouldn't be forcing people in risk of imminent death at home to be walking across deserts in Summer. We shouldn't be forcing desperate people to be trying to cross the Caribbean or the Mediterranean in makeshift flotillas or half dead ferries and boats. It's time to get over the racism and xenophobia and be decent human beings.

* As to the crew? I get that this is about fear of prosecution but it's about as evil as it gets.

* I thought I'd actually break even this month, but the bank randomly assessed another 50 dollar fine which ate the cushion leaving me just short of $9.00. They then deliberately waited four days to cash my Solstice check, so they could assess another hundred dollars of fines. So yet again, I am fascinated to discover how I'm going to feed Hector. I can not handle oils when I'm contagious which means ebay is right out for the duration. I'm struggling to sit up. I need a lot of meds to breath which means no driving and I am desperate for juice and food I can keep down I don't have to cook. I have no fucking idea how I'm going to do the bureaucracy in time as I simply can't handle a scavenger hunt right now. I am only upright now because I needed hydration.
