* The Tea Party republicans in Congress are declaring victory over the American people as the sequester they demanded is now in effect. I can't imagine hating my fellow citizens so much that I'd want to do this sort of damage to the US economy and create this sort of job loss in the middle of a world financial crisis, but they are incredibly proud of the human misery they are about to cause and are smugly crowing about how much damage they are doing. Charming. It annoys me that people who hate their country so much get to call themselves "patriot" without any sense of irony.

* They think they've cured a baby of AIDS. The baby was born with ADS, and they started giving retrovirals within 30 hours. The treatment stopped at 18 months. At two and a half years, the toddler shows no detectable virus. Pre-natal treatment is better, but this case gives some hope.

* It look like my ear drum is healing. The cleaned out the gunk in the hopes the anti-biotic will now actually work on the external infection. The super strong anti-biotic pills should clear up the middle ear infections as well as my lungs. I can actually notice improvement from one hour to the next.

I still feel like crap, but it's a better class of crap.

I ordered a cab for more than enough time early as the appointment was in the middle of poor Squirrel's sleep cycle and if I'm too dizzy to sleep there is no way I'm fit to drive. They never sent the cab and the lines to the cab company were jammed. Of course. I ended up having to wake poor Squirrel after all. He was kind enough to let me stop at Haggens to get fresh fruit, yoghurt, juice, and ready meals.

* Only fourteen people were killed in the election in Kenya. While it is certainly horrible that anyone died, given the violence in the lead up to the election and the over a thousand who died in the previous one, this is a huge improvement. There are questions about fairness as a large number of votes are being rejected. Still, turn out was high, and again, the death toll is much lower than they thought it might be. They were still counting last I checked, so I can't give you a winner.

* My sister was attacked on separate occasions by seagulls, swans, and geese before she was five. It sounds funny, but trust me it was terrifying not only to her, but to my mother and I as we rushed to rescue her as it was happening. There's a reason geese were used as an alarm system all over Europe for thousands of years. When they spot an intruder, they make loud noises and attack. Don't fuck with geese, Man.
