* It looks like voters in Michigan are getting a chance to restore Democracy after the Republicans repealed it in favour of dictatorship. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#48497318

The argument is that, for example, class sizes of 61 students per teacher, more than three times the recommended number is better for people as it's cheaper. Too bad if no one can learn in that environment. Similarly, cutting police and firefighters down to a skeleton crew that aren't enough to handle emergencies is a good idea as it will hollow out the cities and concentrate poverty amongst those who can't afford to leave, as it will kill investment. No, I don't know why Republicans are in favour of these things, but they are. After all, how else can they pay for all those state level tax cuts for the 1%? They need to abolish Democracy so as to be able to impose these policies against the will and interests of those who live in the communities they are trying to destroy.

* Hector "helpfully" howled for three hours, often directly into my ear hole as I'm conveniently lying down when I'm trying to sleep. I eventually caught him enough times that he shut up and took a nap, allowing me to do the same. I may still feel like crap, but at least I'm rested.

* The cats strongly protest the power washing of the outside of their den, the sound of which they found deeply alarming. It was like an army of a thousand cats all hissing at them at once. Mache, of course, took it as a challenge. "You kids get off my lawn!" It was bad enough when it was my room, but when the strange man came on our patio to spray it and the french window? Terrifying for small beasties. They ended up hiding behind Mache in the very center of the apartment. "They are attacking from all sides!" Mache did the classic "pretending to take a nap to show I'm not scared" technique. LM actually had to get cuddles from me she was so traumatized. (Squirrel's window is on the patio side, so he was no help.) The lily may be okay, but I think they trampled the phlox. When I went to move the garden back outside, I discovered one of the tomato plants had been badly damaged either during the move inside, or by cats while inside. Damnit. A couple of gladiolas clearly aren't going to make it either, mostly due to at snacking.
