* It looks like voters in Michigan are getting a chance to restore Democracy after the Republicans repealed it in favour of dictatorship. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#48497318

The argument is that, for example, class sizes of 61 students per teacher, more than three times the recommended number is better for people as it's cheaper. Too bad if no one can learn in that environment. Similarly, cutting police and firefighters down to a skeleton crew that aren't enough to handle emergencies is a good idea as it will hollow out the cities and concentrate poverty amongst those who can't afford to leave, as it will kill investment. No, I don't know why Republicans are in favour of these things, but they are. After all, how else can they pay for all those state level tax cuts for the 1%? They need to abolish Democracy so as to be able to impose these policies against the will and interests of those who live in the communities they are trying to destroy.

I am in full agreement. I know I haven't said that much, being on the other coast, but Neo says everything I could have said only better.

* Hector "helpfully" howled for three hours, often directly into my ear hole as I'm conveniently lying down when I'm trying to sleep. I eventually caught him enough times that he shut up and took a nap, allowing me to do the same. I may still feel like crap, but at least I'm rested.

* The cats strongly protest the power washing of the outside of their den, the sound of which they found deeply alarming. It was like an army of a thousand cats all hissing at them at once. Mache, of course, took it as a challenge. "You kids get off my lawn!" It was bad enough when it was my room, but when the strange man came on our patio to spray it and the french window? Terrifying for small beasties. They ended up hiding behind Mache in the very center of the apartment. "They are attacking from all sides!" Mache did the classic "pretending to take a nap to show I'm not scared" technique. LM actually had to get cuddles from me she was so traumatized. (Squirrel's window is on the patio side, so he was no help.) The lily may be okay, but I think they trampled the phlox. When I went to move the garden back outside, I discovered one of the tomato plants had been badly damaged either during the move inside, or by cats while inside. Damnit. A couple of gladiolas clearly aren't going to make it either, mostly due to at snacking.

* Olympics Day 4-6
I completely agree with those badmittan teams getting DQ'd.
Men's Gymnastic Individual All Around: Mostly I rooted for the Purvis, Kōhei Uchimura, Danell Leyva and John Orozco. I also cheered for Oleg Vernayev, who was robbed of Bronze in the team event. The competition was so full of beautiful performances, it mostly robbed me of things to say. It was heartbreaking when Purvis fell off parallels and Oleg slid off the floor. I clearly should have paid more attention to Nguyen. I'm so excited for Uchimura, as it's the first all around in forty years for Japan and it's been a really rough Olympics for him. Danell impressed the hell out of me. Talk about steely in the face of an early error and coming hard from behind. (Okay, that's a little overwrought, but I've been watching sexy male gymnasts do astonishing things with their bodies all day.
Men's Syncro Springboard: I ended up rooting for Team North America (Mexico, Canada, USA) pretty arbitrarily, having only caught it from the middle, do to taping/scheduling vagaries.
Judo: The Canadians actually showed some, so I got to root for Mongolia! Yay, Naidangiin Tüvshinbayar! Yes, it would have been cool for him to get back to back gold, but Silver is nothing to sneeze at. It looks like Mongolia got two medals, which makes me terribly happy as Judo's pretty much their best sport. That half heavy weight gold match on the women's side was a nail biter, wasn't it? That was a first time judo gold for us. Women's All Around Gymnastics: There were some beautiful performances, but it was pretty much US vs. Russia the whole way. It was hard to watch Mustafina and Raisman loos it on the beam. They were so close in skill that the final medal determination was a tie breaker based on attempted dificulty as they had the exact same final score. Komova had been having a rough Olympics, so it was good to see her on forem and showing just how equisite she could be in motion. Gabby Douglass was Splendidly skilled and utterly charasmatic and as good as Komova was, Gabby clearly earned her gold.
