* Hector let me sleep after the usual drama around bed time. As a result, I got down to the library and had enough left after to do some necessary stuff in the garden. In case y'all are curious, several of the asparagus roots have joined the early sprouter and the gladiolas are coming up well. There is something growing in the tomato tub, but it doesn't look much like tomatoes. It's been decades since I've seen them grow from seeds though, so I'm not weeding them just yet. No sign of heliotropes, and the lavender, phlox, and lilies are too early to tell if they'll take.
* Y'all know I'm not a dog person for the most part, but there are a handful of dogs I've loved in the course of my life. when I was little, I loved visiting The Aunts. The Aunts were actually my Mother's Aunts, but we didn't bother lengthening the honorific. M Father referred to them as the "Old dragons" or by the piratical tag, "rough, tough, and relentless." (To me these were complimentary and descriptive. For him not so much) It was unclear if they ere lesbian or gender variant or some combination there of. I loved them fiercely and they felt much the same about me. They kept both cats and dogs. They trained the dogs for shows. Back when they started, it was believed that Afghan hounds couldn't be trained to show jump. With an admirable stubbornness that is prominent on both sides of my matriarchal line, they proceeded to train afghan hounds to jump and took them out on the show circuit. The proudly displayed pictures of Afghans jumping all over their house.
By the time I was born, they didn't do shows anymore. They were down to two Siamese cats, an elderly white standard poodle, a midsized black poodle, and their last afghan hound. I was terribly fond of these animals, who were very much part of the family. The larger dogs treated me like I was their puppy from when I was a baby and I would cuddle with them. The Afghan was name Bonky because she was unstable. with me, she was gentle and protective, but she had a difficult temperament with other visitors and when my sister was born would bark at her and try to get at her to attack. She got increasingly difficult to handle, and the Aunts and I were heart broken when they had to put her down. Even on the last visit, she was just fine with me and we had a long cuddle before they took her out to the run to keep her away from my sister. I still think of her with love.

* It''s a little weird reading fluffy fashion related coverage of the Swaziland royals given the controversy over their inclusion. (I know it's not getting coverage over here, but there's upset over them living a lavish lifestyle while their people are literally starving. There is also upset over the royals from Bahrain what with the serious human rihts abuses going on as we speak). Anyway, I know US commentators aren't following this stuff, and it's silly to think fashion bloggers would know o care; I'm just saying the juxtaposition of coverage is surreal.
