Dec. 30th, 2011 12:38 am* There was another government massacre in Syria today, but I missed the casualty figures.
* Today, Rick Perry, while still in favor of arresting gay men for consensual sex in their own homes and making twelve year olds carry rape babies, announced he is okay with giving medical attention to women with ectopic pregnancies. It's nice to know there is a line somewhere.
* Newt Gingrich wants you to know that when Acorn does it, it's an illegal criminal fraud conspiracy that should be investigated and punished, but when his campaign does the exact same thing, it's an innocent mistake. Riiiiiight. Look, you pay folks to collect signatures on petitions, some are going to come back fake. That's human nature and it's impossible to check every single name and address. Having a double standard where if an organization that's majority POC it's an evil criminal conspiracy and if it's a majority white organization it's an innocent mistake is pretty fucked up. Can we all just be grown ups and except that this always happens with petition drives?
* I got polled today. It looked like a genuine poll, rather than a push poll. It looked to be checking Gov. Gregoire's popularity and a couple ballot measures being floated. It even let me say the top two things I want the legislature to focus on. (My answer 1. Releasing the money they owe teaches and stop resisting the court orders. 2. Infrastructure). They also gave a list of arguments against the death penalty, including one of the two I find most compelling: inequality in application (IE: systemic racism in the process). (The other being all the folks freed by forensics. I simply can't approve of a government executing people who are neither caught in the act or convicted on compelling forensics evidence.
Most amusing moment? At the end of the call when she was collecting demographics they got to highest level of education. I mentioned my Master's degrees, and she said, "I can tell."
* Apparently since I last used the bus system they stopped doing transfers, which means my trip up to Cordata tomorrow will coast four dollars, and the one next week will cost six. Before they ended transfers, both trips would have cost a dollar or at most two, if my appointment went long. Way to screw over folks too poor to buy passes, Bellingham. After all, only rich folk use the bus system, right?
* No word from the cops on the car or from insurance. So I do not know what we're going to do just yet. There's been an offer of a loan to buy another junker, but Squirrel's handling that and isn't making any decisions until we find out what, if anything, insurance is doing.
* Greenwick was kind enough to bring my meds. This saves me twenty dollars, as I have to start paying copays again on the first. He worked on some more electronic stuff and I unpacked more boxes. We mostly talked about Korea, but also a project he's starting that sounds very cool. Amoung the things unpacked were photo albums and momentos my sister sent. I haven't the heart to look through them yet, with my Mother's absence like a missing limb, but they are now on the designated shelf for later. In the boxes also were some framed photos: my Uncle's graduation photo, the last picture of my Mother and I together, my mother's favorite photo of Skye and I, a drawing by my mother's glorious and infamous Aunts.
* Squirrel heroically carried litter all the way back from the store this morning. This is good, as the black cats are both picky and Butt will use any excuse to "think outside the box." *ahem* Luckily, he picked something I was sending to Goodwill, rather than something I cared about this time.
* I just realized that not only were half our cleaning supplies still in the car but also my irreplaceable metal Singer sewing machine I inherited from Grammy. Fuck!
* Considering Mache's issues with the living room layout, I clearly need to get her an ottomen, poor thing.
* I worked out another thing really bugging me about the Gale series from yesterday, but to explain it, I must mention some huge Book 1, The Enchantment Emporium spoilers. ( My feminism is showing: )
I think I just put my finger on the rest of what's making me itch here. I wonder what they will say on Fangs for the Fantasy?
