Nov. 22nd, 2011 01:37 am* The military government in Egypt as been dragging feet on the promised freedoms and has been brutally putting down pro-Democracy protests. There is a question as to whether they will allow this week's elections and peaceful trnsition to civilian control of the government. the violence has turned 37 political parties against the military and there is a planned combined protest.
Good luck to those marching.
* In US protest news, they were pouring military grade pepper spray on unarmed, peaceful protesters at a sit in in UC Davis last Friday at very close range. I do not understand why they are using pepper spray on people for sitting. I thought that was meant to be reserved for violent folks. A couple of men involved in the spraying are on administrative leave. Anyone think it's just going to be another wrist slap? I totally expect that to be the case.
* Props to Ray Lewis, retired Philly police captain, for getting arrested at the protests there in uniform.
* In an effort to distract from his unconscionable decisions regarding Wall Street protests, Bloomberg has ordered an innocent Muslim arrested. He was in one of the groups Bloomberg had the police illegally infiltrate. Despite the FBI saying the innocent man posed no threat, Bloomberg is claiming he was a terrorist despite a complete lack of evidence. After all, what better way to counter a reputation for trampling civil liberties than inventing a terrorist threat and using that to trample more civil liberties.
* Newt Gingrich has called for the elimination of child labor laws as part of his "pro-family" agenda. He is calling for firing adults to make more jobs for those children as part of his "pro-jobs" program. More opposite day Republican politics. He also wants you to know that anyone who doesn't have a job is lazy and dirty.
* The super committee failed because Republicans refused to raise taxes on the rich by even a nickle. Democrats offered billions of cuts. Of course.
* The first jobs bill of this Congress passed today. It's to help disabled veterans. Not enough, but at least it's something.

* Squirrel's car has blown a gasket or something. It's $650.00 we don't have to fix and they can not get to it until December. This means we don't expect to start paying folks back until January. I'm sorry about the delay, but we really need a working car for Squirrel's work and my Doctor appointments.
* Squirrel and I moved more food and assorted kitchen stuff across today in the truck. I do not know how we would be managing without the loan of it, nor am I sure what we will do about returning it tomorrow, as Squirrel's car can't make the trip. I put most of the stuff we brought across today away, but have run into a serious cabinet shortage issue on which I need to cogitate,
Mache's been letting the others know she's still queen. I am relieved. I missed my tough little girl. I think the move is helping LM to become better woven into the clowder structure and is making her less timid. This is all to the good. They had a huge brawl round about dinner time, with all four retreating to favorite mests, but were milling about normally an hour later. It's above average viscous, but necessary clowder restructuring.
