* They've just sent a directive for the VA to stop discriminating against trans and intersex veterans and actually provide appropriate health care, you know, instead of the usual practice. As usual, not enough, but it's a big step forward, especially since it's essentially unprompted and completely unexpected.

* To be clear, Tracy Morgan is an individual asshole, and I've seen plenty of white queer folk saying racist crap and generally being assholes to other marginalized folk. I'm done with Tracy Morgan, just like I'm done with a whole list of racist, homophobic, and/or misogynistic comics, celebrities, and performers of a variety of races. Tracy Morgan does not speak for all POC, just like Dan Savage does not speak for Queer Folk (speaking of racist white gay men). Let's remember that one person being a jerk doesn't mean that a whole group is entirely made up of assholes. Let's not have one guy be an occasion for labeling a whole group of people, some of whom are also members of the very group Mr. Morgan was attacking, homophobes. Let's not repeat the ugliness over Prop 8, where people throw out truth and reality based thinking in favour of playing yet another round of let's scapegoat a whole race of people who didn't have the power or the numbers in California to grant marriage equality even if every single one had voted for equality.

Let's not make civil rights a race to the bottom with all sorts of marginalized people pissing on each other and trying to kick each other down instead of raise each other up. Let's not take this occasion to drag out nasty stereotypes, further marginalize already marginalized folk who had nothing to do with the incident, and generally be tremendous assholes ourselves on a larger scale in response.

* I do admit, my opinion of Tina fey is significantly lower now for her defense of Mr. Morgan, much as my opinion of Jodi Foster has dropped over her championing of Mel Gibson.
