* I made a second attempt with the gift nail wraps. * I dreamed I was drawing paper grave goods for the dead, people standing around, telling me what to draw, much the way my sisters and her friends used to for the paper dolls and play sets I used to draw them when we were children. It was fine until at the end, Loki turned up wanting me to draw zim presents. I made a little paper box out of the scraps and drew three eight legged ponies to put in the box, but that wasn't enough. Ze wanted three separate gifts, not three things, and the ponies were basically the same gift. So I drew zim a TV and DvD player to watch while they dripped venom on zim in his cave of torment, thinking that after centuries even endless torment must get dull, but ze said really they were one gift as ze needed the one to use the other, so that was the second gift. Everyone gathered around shouting ideas, including Loki zimself, because of course ze would, and trying to peek at what I was making, because Loki. Ze was wanting these big amorphous abstract gifts, like "Knowledge of the Natural World." I am shuddering to think what ze might have done with them, but I have trouble parsing speech when too many people speak at once, and I can't write and think and listen to like seven or eight people talk all at once. It is too many things, so I woke up, and lay in the dark thinking that I really did not want Loki in my head even if ze was wearing a particularly sexy Hiddleston suit, and maybe it was a good thing ze never got zir third gift.
(Note: I am using gender neutral pronouns on the grounds that the Loki in my dream was very clearly the genderfluid shape-shifting Norse God who happened to have put on the Hiddleston MCU form that morning, likely in the hopes it would disarm me. Like I was aware of it being Loki cosplaying as the MCU Loki in the dream, if that makes sense).
* NOTE: Any money randomly appearing in my paypal is going to be used for necessities like meds, gas, things the cats and fish need, etc.. (Said Meds and gas are likely happening Wednesday. - 6.22: Suspicions. Beverly Crusher explains to Guinan why she's up before an inquiry board. She invited scientists to come listen to a Ferengi Scientist and watch a demonstration of his new shield technology. The scientist piloting the test shuttle dies. The scientist has very unusual anatomy. Dr. Crusher feels extra guilt because he essentially sent him out on a mission, even though he was a volunteer, something Guinan and Picard point out in different ways. Anyway, they can't find what's wrong, so Crusher wants to call off testing. The Ferenghi dies a suspicious death as well, making one wonder if someone isn't killing them: the first to discredit the inventor, the second in aid of stealing the research. The remaining male scientist casts suspicion on the Klingon Scientist. The Klingon Scientist takes the questioning as an attack on her honor and pushes Beverly, who doesn't back down. The Klingon says he accused her of sabotage and insists she didn't do it. Beverly does the inevitable illegal autopsy, but finds nothing. Picard is very disappointed and says he isn't sure he can protect her. Guinan pushes her to keep investigating as she has nothing to lose. A talk with data allows her to work out a way the first murder could have been done and a way to test for that. Riker tries to warn her off; she persists with the help of a medical colleague. They find ambiguous evidence. Beverly takes off in the modified shuttle to test her theory. It turns out the first death was faked. He was feigning and listening in, so he stowed away to kill her and steal the prototype. She fights back, but he is basically a T1000 and beams out. She saves herself, vindicates herself and the Ferenghi, and tries to gift Guinan with an ergonomic racket. It turns out Guinan faked tennis elbow to talk to Beverly. I really hate when they violate medical ethics. I think if they are going to do this in shows, it is obnoxious when there is no consequence, as there is here. At least when B5 did it there were dire results.
- 6.23: Rightful Heir. Most of the opener on this one was cut off. From context it sounds like Worf made a fire in his room to try to summon a vision of Kayliss. Anyway this seems to be follow up on the episode where he found the colony of Klingons who'd had their culture scrubbed. Worf was trying to connect or reconnect with his own faith. He is given leave to go on pilgrimage to the place where Kayliss is expected to return. Worf is angry he has no vision. The spiritual leader points out 10 days is nothing compared to the 1500 years they've been waiting. Worf keeps trying and gets his vision, only it's a real dude everyone can see claiming to be Kayliss. Worf tests him and he's Klingon. Worf has doubts even though "Kayliss" Knows Things. I don't blame Worf at all. He keeps Questioning. They duel with Bat'leths and "Kayliss" laughs, giving a rousing speech about fighting enriching the spirit. The Klingon leader is furious and assumes he's an imposter. He's brought a knife with original Kayliss' blood. They match. Worf is convinced, Klingon leader thinks this is a ploy by his political enemies. They debate vigorously, then duel with knives. Worf stops the Leader from killing "Kayliss." The leader is scornful as Kayliss was supposed to be the greatest warrior of all. The holy men are trying to find away to spin things. Worf lists all the things that prove this Kayliss isn't real. Turns out this is a clone, who has been given fake memories based on the sacred texts. Clone Kayliss is horrified; Worf is furious. Data asked Worf if he still believes Kayliss will return. Worf is unsure; Data talks about his own belief that he is a person as a leap of faith. War tells the leader about the clone thing, but insists that people need something to believe in and that people will make a leap of faith and there will be civil war if he opposes the Kayliss clone. Worf argues that Clone Kayliss could rally the people as Emperor with the council doing the actual ruling. Worf says they should tell the people the whole truth, but they should declare him heir of Kayliss. The leader gives in and civil war is averted. Clone Kayliss talks Worf through his crisis of faith. I...don't know how to feel about this one, to be honest. Back in 1993 we were so desperite for everything
klingon, but this went places I personally don't want to go in 2018.
- 6.24 Second Chances: Riker is playing smooth jazz in 10 Forward while they retreive a cash of scientific data. Diana requests "Night Bird" because Will has never made it through the solo. He is saved by a summons to the bridge. The ship that evacuated the scientists was Riker's old ship. They beam down to find another version of Riker marooned there, one that was created by a transporter accident. Everyone is weirdly skeptical that a transporter accident could do this, despite a long history of similar accidents. Geordi explains the accident and that both Rikers are real, having diverged from that point. Apparently the other Riker altered the computer for survival reasons and they need him to go down and undo it. Also, apparently he and Deanna were still dating when he was lost. Deanna explains that she isn't dating our Riker either. The Rikers don't particularly like or understand each other. The other Riker is understandably bitter and is also not inclined to follow orders from our Riker. I've never understood why anyone would find Riker appealing, but the little romantic scavenger hunt, the artwork he made by modifying his phasor in his hermitage, and the haunting Frakes performance in the Ten forward scene with Deanna make me see why someone might. Picard opts for Other Riker's plan. The Rikers argue again. Beverly tries to get Deanna to go for it with Other Riker. Other Riker and Deanna compare martial arts styles and end up in an embrace. Deanna and Our Riker discuss her dating Other Riker. Our Riker is uncharacteristically adult about it. Good on him. The Rikers play poker with Data and Worf. It gets personal and uncomfortable fast. Riker is offered a posting and Deanna won't give up her life on the enterprise so history repeats. Have I mentioned how much I am enjoying the Data/Worf relationship? Because I am. Data asks Worf if he thought he'd get along with his double. Worf thinks not because "I am difficult to get along with." Worf is delightful. Anyway, Data's trying to work out why the Rikers don't get along even though they are easy to get along with. He posits lack of uniqueness; Worf (more correctly, I think) posits they see something in they other they don't like in themselves. Meanwhile on the mission the Rikers snipe at each other. Other Riker falls; our Riker saves him. Deanna isn't going; Our Riker gives Other Riker his horn; Other Riker decides to go by Thomas.
