* TNG: Season 6 Rewatch:
- 6.21: Frame of Mind. I think this episode proves Johnathon Frakes could act when they gave him something to do. They are doing a play with a torture/interrogation theme and going to a planet in the middle of political chaos in which a faction is torturing people to rescue Federation researchers. Riker is acting in the play and also to pose as a merchant on the mission. Only Riker is feeling paranoid and noticing small anomalies which point to the fact that he's been captured and is being tortured/interrogated. This one is hard for me to watch given the psychiatric abuse angles and my history with gaslighting and interrogation designed to break rather than get information. They are gaslighting him into thinking he wasn't ever in Starfleet. Like I said, very hard to watch, given how close this hits my personal experience of abuse. I think it's interesting that they did this episode and the Picard torture episode in the same season. When they come to rescue him, he tries to run from the rescuers. When he thinks he's back on the enterprise, he notices an anomaly and ends up phasoring himself. The interrogators are back, but then he notices an anomaly and phasors them. Neither the hospital or enterprise is real, so he keeps going until he breaks the illusion the interrogator made and frees himself. They transport him home and debrief him. The Enterprise dreams were a defense mechanism.
