May. 17th, 2012 10:48 pm* The weather's getting warm now and supplies at food banks all over the country are running low. It's a simply thing. In the US, there are a bunch of giving holidays in Winter, plus cold weaher reminds people that folks are likely cold and hungry. With the warm weather, donations dry up, but people are still going hungry. Where I live, there are still generous supermarket chains like Cost Cutter, Haagans, and Trader Joe's sending in day olds and close to expiration stuff, but the food bank still has trouble feeding folks with the private donations drying up. Likely people are going hungry wherever you happen to live. If you have something extra, now's a really good time to help out your local food bank with either food or cash donations.
* Similarly, with the summer tends to come blood shortages. Obviously, I can't give blood, but that doesn't mean I don't support donation. The Red Cross has been protesting irrational donation bans for ages, and any of us can be in an accident and need blood in an emergency. My belief that we should change to a science based blood screening policy instead of a religious one doesn't mean tat I think people should die unnecessarily. As a result, I want to remind those of you who can donate to do it.
