* ...And it's not the clamps; it's the starter. (It must have been the alternator we replaced last Summer. I knew it was one or the other and the amount we paid sounds about right). So that's around three hundred on top of towing for a total of 353 and change. Fuck, fuck, fuck! The honest mechanic pretty clearly wanted my vehicle out of their lot as they did it anyway today in exchange for everything I had minus the money for the mailers and a small cushion to protect from fees. I will have to pay them the rest, of course and will go back Wednesday when I forage to pay them everything except housing. I'm not sure if there will be enough to cover it all, so that may be hanging over me too. Which also means I'll need to raise insurance by the end of the month and another 100 aprox by the 10th to cover bills I didn't pay last month, plus of course this months bills which will likely be 200ish when they show up. I feel like I'm drowning. On top of this while I was getting mailers I discovered my driver's license had gone Walkabout. Which means I might have to buy a new one, which the internet tells me is $54, up from the $45 I remember. Which means shorting the mechanic who was kind enough to put my car together on a promise. DMV was near the mailers, but I went by and they were closed on Mondays. I decided best to get the groceries as I'd already invested the gas and would have to drive home past it illegally to get home anyway. On the way I tried to figure out where I could have lost it. The only places I could think of where I'd have needed it in the last month were bank and/or Post Offices. I knew that getting from Mailers to Downtown in rush hour in the twenty minutes was theoretically popular, but unlikely, hence groceries. The Bank would still be open though and the library was on the way to the bank and on the errand list, so I did those. Alas no driver's license at the bank. I went through my messenger bag and searched my car. The options are left it at one of the Post Offices or really truly gone. Tomorrow's plan is to call around to the two Post Offices I used mailing the ebays. If it's at one of them it's likely the big branch that opens early Downtown, as I paid cash at the little Post Office Wednesday, but I can't remember which one I went to for the big mailing or if I paid cash or check. I think it was Big Post Office for big mailing and small Post Office on Monday, but couldn't swear to it or what I paid with. Fuck, fuck, fuck! I'm ridiculously law abiding for someone who lived as wild a life I did in my youth, but my kind of wild mostly didn't break laws. It freaks me out that I've been driving without a license for who knows how long and that I'm likely going to be driving all over Tuesday or Wednesday on purpose without really fucking stresses me out just contemplating. And cops here like to pull people over for driving while poor. They haven't done it since I got this car, but it looks pretty fucking clunkerish, so it's just a matter of time.
2018 is really out to destroy me on every level I have left even as the entire world is threatened on multiple levels. This is too many things.
Anyway, I am home with about half of this month's food allotment. I've lost my parking as the temp disabled parking tag people got a reup while my car was in the shop. I changed the cardboard out of the trunk and discovered it's as bad as it was before I bailed it last Spring. I knew the cardboard would be moldy slime, but it was practically liquid and I got it all over myself. I suppose the back window leak is worse or it was a particularly wet rainy season. I discovered the blanket I was using to line the top had actually molded from the water leaking in, so I pulled that for a washing. Squirrel was out, which meant one armed gimping single arm loads into the apartment from the curb.
It was not a good day, but the car is running much better. Mathematically, if the car lives another half year, this really is cheaper than the bus and doesn't required long distance gimping to get to things like the doctor, the library, and forage. Still, I hate putting money into it knowing the engine is going to give out in the not to distant future. Sigh.
Anyway, when I'm not quite as exhausted and on the verge of collapse from the stress, I need to pick sacrifices for Auction so I can keep juggling for another month.
* I used all my money on housing and insurance last month, and this month it's all going to housing and car things. I need the car to get around as I am disabled. I need to raise about $600 to stay afloat. If you'd like to chip in: Paypal Lethran@gmail.com

Date: 2018-04-03 08:28 am (UTC)It pains me to say this, but in an effort to be heroically fair I suppose I wouldn't expect him to have been micromanaging his office supply orders. (Then again, you never know. Apparently Bin Ladin used to send very nagging memos around asking people if they really could justify buying that second box of pencils etc.)
