May. 10th, 2012 04:04 am* Thank you Mr. President for reverting to your original pro-marriage equality stance. Thank you for agreeing that we'd all be better off with one set of rights and responsibilities for all citizens instead of graduated levels of citizenship.
* FOX "news" declared that the President "has declared war on marriage." Right, because affirming the right to marry as a basic civil right is the same as killing a large number people, somehow? I guess? Riiiiight. This from the same network going after other folks for using "war on language" for bills that will actually result in deaths, like ones designed to prevent women with deadly ectopic pregnancies or bleeding out from hemorrhages from being given emergency medical treatment that will save their lives. You can argue whether or not laws designed to kill women actually constitute a war, but I have trouble seeing how affirming something as a civil right constitutes any sort of war. Nobody is dieing and the institution is strengthened. Hypocrite much?
* Rachel Maddow's coverage was charming, and included historical perspective, the glorious Cory Booker vs. Chris Christie on why you shouldn't put the rights of a minority to majority vote, and an interview with Barney Frank. It's most of the whole show and I had trouble picking one thing to link. I do beg to differ on Ronald Reagan's person opinion of gays, however. He was notoriously assholish to Randolph Scott back in the day. I tend to think his refusal to shake hands and the like speaks more of his personal feelings than and thing he said as president to try to convince folks privately he didn't hate and fear them.
Cory Booker's interview made me tear up. He really is practically a super hero. So I picked him, but I suggest watching it on the web, if you can't on TV.: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/
* While I'm thinking of it, the Advocate actually found something interesting to say about the HRC last month:http://www.advocate.com/print-issue/advance/2012/04/18/will-new-hrc-president-be-game-changer
I'm skeptical. I am not going to take them seriously until/unless the following happens: 1. POC and trans folk in top positions leading to 2. not throwing POc and trans folk under the bus at the drop of a hat and 3. fierce pursuit of policies that help the community as a whole instead of narrow HRC focused self interest with a vague interest in helping out white gay cis men and the occasional white lesbian or biwoman pretty much by accident or as a biproduct.
Of course, I am similarly skeptical of the Advocate.
* For a snarky spin, the Daily Show looks at this weeks LGBTQ news starting here, but it's a whole bunch of little segments so I'm not spamming you with links/embeds: http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/wed-may-9-2012/endless-suffrage-2012---states--rights-edition
* I'm even further behind today and hadn't time for much beyond the LGBT domestic coverage, reading lj or much else. Apologies.
* Hector crashed hard Tuesday evening like he does coming down for a manic phase. He's back to sweet and cuddly. Tonight he was close enough to okay, to follow me into my room for feeding and to let me feed him without drama. I'll know he's really back to okay when he comes and sleeps with the clowder in my room, so fingers crossed on that. UPDATE: He groomed himself bloody while I was in the shower, though he seemed otherwise fine when I got out.
* Glee S:2
1. Apparently, the good bits of "Sexy" tarted just after I paused to leave for the Doctor. I really liked both Burt scenes, nd the Britany/santaa stuff was interesting. I'm really not wanting to see the adult plot stuff though as it's excruciating.
2. Original Song was really mixed bag for me, but it's an upward trend.
3. I simply don't understand why Quinn and Rachel are fighting over Finn. I don't get the appeal at all, and I know I'd have found it equally baffling when I was in high school. I mean, he's boring and directionless. Blander than mayonnaise. I simply don't get why one intelligent woman would be that into him, let alone two.
4. Given how I was feeling about North Carolina last night, it was kind of comforting to go to bed and get Blaine and Kurt talking to Burt (separately) about gay sex and Klaine's first kisses before I went to sleep.
* Squirrel took me to Avengers today:
1. It was genuinely fun, but it dragged in spots. It was also long enough to be really painful.
2. The dick measuring contests were boring, cliche, and went on way to long. They could have saved a lot of time, energy, and pointless bickering by whipping them out and measuring them. I thought they'd established Cap's was biggest after the three way idiot fight, but Tony Stark kept wanting to re-litigate. *yawn*
3. They did a good job at ensemble, whih is always to my liking.
4. Points off for them telegraphing all plot twists well in advance, in some cases by at least an hour.
5. It was watchable for me as someone who has hardly any exposure to Marvel outside of X-Men, the old Hulk TV show, the lead up movies, and the Young avengers comics neo_prodigy talked me into.
6. It was manipulative, but honest about it.
7. It had some nice moments, including some seriously clever scenes, particularly the penthouse scene just before all hel broke loose.
8. Is it just me, or did Loki look turned on by the Hulk after his fight with him?
9. Speaking of the Hulk, I was skeptical about the recasting, but I'm now okay with it.
