I'm kind of astounded at the vehemence and severity of the fallout to the accusations against Spacey. I'm *not* passing judgement as to whether it's all appropriate or deserved or anything else, just noting the disparity... and I have to wonder why.

Is it just the flavor of the times, that people are well and truly fed up with assault and predation; is it driven by the age of the first victim to speak out or that OMG the victims are the menz this time, or is this driven by panic and retribution over a "gay predator"?

I think it may be backlash over 45 getting in despite being a serial sexual predator and very likely a pedophile, though I think there was a hint that it might be going this way when people collectively dropped Cosby. The reaction to Cosby was slower and softer, but it was motre than had happened to previous serial rapists in the industry. I say this because they are not releasing Louis C. K.'s new movie and he just had three projects cancelled by... I think it was amazon, netflix, and one other. If that hadn't happened, I'd say gay predator meme, but Louis C. K. was going after adult women. I think there has been a collective fuck this we've had enough. Whether it will last, I can't say, but I hope it does lose. I'd love for this to be an end to Roman Polanski and Woody Allen Apologists. I'd love for this severe reaction to change the culture. I'm not holding my breath, but I have some hope. Anita hill couldn't stop Clarence Thomas getting on SCOTUS, but a year later, a majority of men, given time to think about it, believed her, and for the first time some companies started taking sexual harassment seriously and there was noticeable improvement in work place culture in a lot of places. It actually became possible to win a law suit, which it wasn't before. Not enough, but a noticeable change. I hope this is a bigger, stronger signal of change, though I doubt it will be enough to realy fix things. I have hopes of progress even if it's not everything I'd like.
