* Sunday I did yet more Gothmas prep, and did up some ebays, which ate the evening. They go up Monday evening. Unfortunately, the spending the first half of the month one kind of sick or another means they won't be fast enough to save this month's finances. Realistically, I still need to pick more sacrifices so I can add more tomorrow, but I'm also meant to be foraging etc.. tomorrow, and I'm not convinced I'll be able to pick fast enough anyway, so we'll see.

* ToS Rewatch, Season 2:
- The Changeling. The one with Nomad sending codes to decode and kill people, due to messy combining of probes. When I think of how good Uhura's brain is and all the languages and knowledge stored inside her as well as her personality and history... you can't just "retrain." Fuck you Star Trek. This is one of those things where Kirk talks a computer to death. What can be said about that which hasn't been said before a million times?
- Mirror Mirror. I'd forgotten this started with them negotiating with pacifists. This one is a favorite for a reason. This is another one that explores character and culture, which is where Star Trek is genuinely at it's best, and I'm a sucker for paranoia and small scale politics. This one is a more interesting iteration than the split natured Kirk of first season. The cut after "What do you think our counter parts are doing?" to raving mirror Kirk is genuinely funny still. I love the way alternative Spock is still very Spock. There are so many good lines in this, "My operatives would avenge my death, and some of Them are Vulcans." *shudder* "The very flower of umanity." The fight scene really shows how dangerous Vulcans, and by extention Romulans are, There is a lot of good, subtle acting from Nimoy in this one, and Nichelle Nichols is a delight to watch. I think it's the one I've most enjoyed this rewatch. I rather like that it's the overlooked Marlena who figures out WTF Mirror side first, then Spock. I don't blame her for wanting out. The last conversation with Mirror Spock echoes the thing Kirk did to the computer in Changeling. This may have been Kirk's finest moment in all of the pre-reboot properties, and Shatner's acting for once doesn't ruin it.
- The Apple. It's the beautiful planet where everything kills them because the planetary computer correctly identifies them as a threat, while the planet drains the Enterprise' energy and makes transporting out a problem. Dead read shirt in the intro. More Grade A Spock sass. Kirk's shame spiral is annoying, and why is he hitting random inhabitants without you, know, finding out if they intend ill first. Kirk is such an asshole. "I won't hurt you." You just did! "We come in peace." Then why are you attacking people for no reason? And then he goes and violates prime directive for funsies because people being happy and peaceful fundamentally offends him. Fuck you Kirk and McCoy! Why does McCoy's "what works for me" trump what works for the inhabitants? Frankly, I think the inhabitants have every right to fight back against Federation colonialism. "They'll die because I had to follow orders, always orders." Since when has Kirk ever followed an order he didn't want to? Also, they'd already decided to destroy the local civilization because it offended them before it came to this. Just saying. They are acting like this is a happy ending. *shudder* And then Kkirk reacts to Spock's calling him on it, by insulting his looks. Seriously Kirk is the Worst.
