May. 17th, 2017 11:03 pm* Finally! The Justice Department (Rob Rosenstein, not Jeff Sessions) has appointed a Special Council. Let us see if Robert Mueller's properly independent in practice.
* For the record, I do think that the Comey firing is pretty clearly obstruction of justice, which ought to be an impeachable offense along with several other charges related to that, such as witness intimidation. At the same time, Comey has show that he is biased, and I do actually prefer Mueller as lead investigator. Ideally, I'd like to see all the currently in progress investigations proceed with vigor, but assuming Trump doesn't fire Mueller, my suspicion is that it's going to be him and/or possibly the FBI (if Trump doesn't get to put in a loyalist who will order a cover up) and/or the financial crimes guys most likely to actually DO something. Congressional Republicans have made it clear they have zero interest in national security or protecting the rule of law in this country by deciding to slow walk their investigations and doing everything in their power to aid in the cover up instead of acting in the best interests of the country and the world. The Mueller appointment is the first hopeful thing I've seen on the Trump/Russia/Espionage/treason/money laundering/multiple felonies front in...since the beginning maybe. I'm not holding my breath because too much can go wrong with an autocrat in power, but I do feel a tiny bit better.

* I HATE inspection. The siren goes off at random intervals, so you have time to relax and forget and then you are jumping out of your skin. They found a leak in the laundry ceiling sprinkler but luckily it is building structure and not our expense. I hate everything about this process. The noise, the intrusion, and particularly the management lady staring at all our stuff. At least it's over and two hours later Tavy was out of the closet of solitude and having a lap nap in his cat cave.

* Class: I really like that Matteusz got a whole set of hero moments, and that ram got to talk about his relationship with his religion and his father. It was good seeing April really coming into her own as a character and that the family drama did not wrap up neatly and unrealistically the way most shows would have done. The Governors are terrifying and clearly will grow as antagonists, given enough space and episodes. I think the theme today was character and it was lovely how parallel April/Ram was with The Prince/Matteusz. The part where April's mom frames the healing as violent and a violation and affirms the value of her life the way it is. It was really affirming and the opposite of what most shows do.
