* Tavy had a great day Sunday. I got lung meds earlier in the week and those come in the pharmacy bag just large enough for him to fit in, so he's been playing with it all week. It has reached the stage where there are a number of holes in it, and I take his yarn snake and wiggle it enticingly in front of the holes and/or stick in the tip. He has the best time attacking from inside the bag. hours of fun. He ripped it so much in the process, there is likely only a day of play left, alas!

Re: Facebook study - that does not surprise me at all. Since resuming my presence there in Mid-April, I have felt noticeably more lonely (despite that social media is supposed to make us feel more connected).

I've had accounts on social media since 1998, before the word "social media" was invented, and way before the likes of Facebook. It feels like none of the other platforms I've used over the years to interact with other people (like the old Bolt.com, MySpace, LiveJournal, even Instagram) would leave me with the feelings Facebook does (and has, for the past several years). I've always thought it had something to do with the lack of anonymity. Even in Livejournal's heyday, for instance, it wasn't common at all to have to write things that would be read (and judged) by your boss, your aunt, a girl you knew in Girl Scouts 20 years ago, and your roommate, all at the same time. Sure, some of us were "friends" with some people we knew from real life on almost all these sites/applications - but that was usually because we gave them our secret username, because we trusted them. Facebook runs on a different set of principles. There, we must be "ourselves" (whatever that means) and if a coworker we barely know types our legal name into the search bar and sends us a friend request, it's considered rude to refuse. A lot of boundary blurring goes on with Facebook and I think that's at least partially what leads to some of these issues.

I have never once regretted my decition to stay the fuck away from facebook. Over the years everything I hear about facebook makes it clear this was the right choice.
