* As part of the "ceasefire" in Syria, the government continues to bombard civilians from land and air, killing 120 people. They are digging people out of rubble in a Damascus suburb that the government hit with MIGS. They also shelled Turkey again and the Turks understandably fired back.

* 23 States are under advisory or warning from Sandy. It has morphed from a hurricane into a Winter storm so it's now snowing in places it doesn't snow in October like West Virginia. BBC is correctly labeling this more climate change consequences, as more extreme and chaotic weather is a symptom, and if you get cold you get more snow, flooding etc. due to all the extra moisture in the air from things melting that shouldn't. Sigh. US news sources avoid mentioning that like this summer's droughts and all the fires, climate change is causing this as any accurate mention of climate science by network affiliate weather people gets them fired. The Republicans insist that despite year after year of global high temperatures and the predicted weather disruption that 1. as long at it still snows somewhere now and then all the other evidence is refuted. 2. Even if climate change is real, it's God's will and we should just let the planet fly. 3. If we make it illegal to study or mention climate change it will magically cease to exist. 4. We should take no steps to upgrade infrastructure to make it more resistant to the extreme storms climate change causes because that's socialism. Sigh. Meanwhile, there is massive flooding on the Eastern Seaboard, massive damage, 2.8 million people are left without power and water, and the dieing has started.

The Hudson has overrun both banks. The Brooklyn Battery tunnel has started to flood. People in Newark, Hoboken, and Manhattan are being told it’s too late to evacuate. People in the areas that are flooded are encouraged to shelter in place, with people in ground floor and basement apartments told to go higher up in the building for safety. LaGuardia as well as all the bridges and tunnels out of Manhattan are closed. The Hudson is at record highs with cars starting to float. Sections of the city are losing power and the subways are starting to flood.

They are begging people to only call 911 if it’s a real emergency as the operators are flooded and they are having trouble getting help to people in mortal danger.

* BPAL had their Paypal account locked down because they had the word "Iranian" in a scent title thanks to the trade embargo. Yes, it's amusing that a US based artisan scent maker got hit by the embargo. It's significantly less funny that innocent civilians who oppose their government are very literally dying unnecessarily in Iran because we have decided to deny them medicine.

* Today was a Doctor's appointment. I also went to get a train ticket to Portland and back as taking the car for four days is rough on Squirrel. The drive along the bay was breathtakingly gorgeous, with the water and the cloud cover the same colours. I imagined the boats mirrored in the sky, sailing upside down on the sea of clouds. Tomorrow is phone calls and last errands. Wednesday is Samhain. Thursday morning, I leave for Oregon. There is technically i=Internet access there, but the lines are long and it's a hassle, so expect me to go silent until at least Sunday night.

* I didn't mention, but the prettiest display at the Haunted Forest was a section where they'd strung up spider webs with big plush spider in it to make a tunnel. This being Autumn, all these leaves had fallen into the webbing. Lovely.
