Oct. 24th, 2012 04:31 am* The Syrian government is claiming they are willing to agree to a cease fore in honor of Eid-ul-Fitr. I don't trust it, given that they were strafing civilians and bombing hospitals during the last cease fire. For sure, I'd love for them to stop systematically killing civilians even a short time, it's just the Assad government is the opposite of trustworthy.
* They have finally put up a Holocaust monument for the Sinti/Roma murdered in the camps.
* Senate Candidate Murdoch wants you to know that women shouldn't have the right to choose because rape babies are a gift from god. *shudder* Guess which party he's in. Go on, guess.
* Anderson Cooper and the reality about Naval spending and readiness:
* Young McCain voter subjected to misogynistic attacks for daring to ask about equal pay:
* Mitt Romney's disdain foe foreign policy is a set up for disaster:
* Colorado screw the pooch on conducting a fair election:
* The Daily Show on Mitt Romney and Foreign Policy:
* Stephen Colbert on the debate:
* Mookraker asks people with "Support our Troops" bumper stickers what they actually mean by that on a concrete level: http://mookraker.livejournal.com/11940.html
* Despite sacrificing a large amount of sleep today, I failed to get anything sorted regarding the car. Sigh.
* I just finished John Water's Role Models. It's a funny thing, I have mixed emotions about his art(I love some of it; some is mediocre; some I don't like), but I find him fascinating personally. Even when it doesn't work for me, I get what he's trying to do, and I have real respect for how fully and openly he lives as himself, if that makes sense. He also just seems like the rare famous person it'd be fun to hang out with in person. The book feels a little like spending a long evening with him. The voice is so clearly his, that his distinctive delivery and particular shade of accent come through. It was a bit of a roller coaster and quite intense and amusing by turns. By the end it was a little exhausting, though part of that may be me having to read it in too few sittings with not enough rest between. It's hard to put into words, but it was very, very John Waters, his aesthetics, his enthusiasms, oddly moving and a little bit disgusting (Outsider Porn gets into scat). I am glad I read it, for certain.
