* Protest in China continue against the Japanese even as their warships and random fishing vessels gather near the uninhabited islands under dispute. Most Japanese firms have temporarily closed down operations in China.

* Egypt has issued arrest warrants for seven Americans for death penalty level blasphemy in connection with the Youtube video. The fatwa on Salman Rushdie has been renewed with a higher bounty. Sigh.

* The "Papers, please" law goes into effect in Arizona tomorrow.

* Along with some absolutely horrifying foreign policy stuff, including advice to terrorists, and a bunch of equally scary magical thinking about the economy, the Romney tape includes him saying that the Hispanic vote is a threat to the Nation because they don't all vote the way he wants them to. Not the Party, but the nation as a whole. Wow, just... wow.

* Wow the BBC really misunderstood yesterday's Mitt Romney scandal. It's not about "people on welfare." Moe than half of the people Mitt Romney was attacking are on social security IE pensioners who paid into the system and are ow getting it back in retirement benefits. The bulk of the rest are working poor who are paying a quarter to half of their income in things like payroll and sales tax, which Romney says isn't nearly enough since they aren't paying extra income tax on top of that. There are also folks drawing on their unemployment insurance, students, and people who have become disabled. Yes, a fraction of the people Mitt Romney doesn't care about and thinks are parasites are on welfare, but trust me, 47% of the US is not on Welfare. This is a broad attack on the elderly, disabled, and the working poor. If the BBC is going to report on this stuff, I think they should try applying a little common sense. Seriously, a claim that nearly half of the US is on Welfare wouldn't pass the sniff test. Check your facts BBC!
