Sep. 12th, 2012 02:38 am* A youtube video mocking Mohammad has sparked attacks on US embassies in Libya and Cairo. Fire and looting were involved, but damage reports varied wildly at dinner time, which is when I last checked.

* It turns out that the CIA begged and pleaded for the Bush administration to prevent 9/11, were ignored, then blamed by Bush administration folks who were out right lying about the contents of intelligence briefings.

* Today was a serious hassle, with way too much traffic combining with a whole lot of newbies going super slow and making sudden lane changes due to being unfamiliar with our bizarre street pattern. (I'm guessing someone with mattresses bungeed to their roof going twenty miles an hour or slower in a left hand lane and arguing vigorously with the passenger at traffic lights is new to town, for example. I could be wrong, but it's college students moving in season). All I wanted to do was change books at the library, pick up meds, get a flu shot, and get household stuff like detergent. It took two and a half hours. O.o A cat (likely Hector) threw up on my bed while I was out, and this being the second time in three days, I was out of clean sheets. Of course the laundry room was all in use, so it took a few hours of periodic checks to get my clothes washed, plus the hobbling back and forth to check on the clothes. Meanwhile, my Wifi went out which meant voicemail maze and tech support. Sigh. Today officially sucked.
* That's it. I'm done with Covert Affairs.

Date: 2012-09-13 02:19 am (UTC)It was a low budget indie made by an expat Copt (who was understandably upset) and some friends and posted to Youtube.
It's looking like the use of it and timing was very deliberate. The attack on the embassy in Libya was military style and too organized for random violence and the Egyptian protesters had black flags, suggesting it was an organized action by ultraconservatives. Today's riots appear to be youths with rocks who mostly never saw the video, but heard there was rioting and looting and wanted in.
As horrible as the events in Libya were their government's response speaks well of them and Libyans died in defense of the Embassy. I'm actually a lot more worried about Egypt for complicated reasons I don't want to get into here.
If you told my fifteen years ago self I would type the sentence above and mean it, I'd have laughed.
